I just heard that Zend is contacting companies that have the word "php" in their commercial products and forcing them to change the name and URL! Anyone know/heard anything about this? Can they do such thing?

No, they can't, PHP is not a copyrighted name and Zend doesn't actually own it.

I hope and think you're right. PHP is way too common for them to pull something like this.

PHP is open source licensed under a GPL variant. They just changed the licensing, but it isn't any more restrictive.

I think whoever posted this needs to provide a link to the source. I interviewed the creator of PHP so I'm pretty sure I can drop him a line and give him an earful ;)

We received a similar message today from the developers of a piece of software we use, and they've changed their name already.

I wasn't able to find anything about this on their web site. Anyone have the address of a press release or announcement?

They might put something up about it on their new site at www.hostcms.com

They're planning on a July launch.

Cheers
