View Full Version : Strange e-mail "from" RegisterFly support

I got this e-mail, ostensibly from Registerfly support, asking me to confirm the Whois information of my domain with them. The e-mail sent to the correct admin address asks me to click on a dead OpenSRS link (isn't that a reseller at Tucows?). Any ideas? The return path of the e-mail goes to registrarmail.net.

Oh, and I got another identical e-mail just now, for the other domain I have at RF.

Or are they harvesting my contact address. Should I "bounce" the e-mail as undelivered?

maybe registerfly using opensrs systems to manage their domains?

and regarding the email its normal for all registrars to send such emails to make sure your domains are up and current

Both registrarmail.net and opensrs.net are owned by Tucows. Isn't that suspicious? Is opensrs a software system or service provider and not a domain registrar?

And why is the link dead?

They are required to send out those noticies and make sure there is accurate whois once a year I thought, though i haven't been getting any lately.

I get your point Gamik. It's not about confirming your whois data it's about registerfly/opensrs connection. Registerfly were/are eNom resellers and now are their own registrar. They have nothing connecting them to opensrs (afaik). This suggests some kind of spam email, but I agree, a link that goes nowhere? Why would anyone bother?

FWIW In the 2+ years I have had domains with RegisterFly I have never gotten anything about confirming my WHOIS information..

Tucows (OpenSRS) also offer "OpenHRS", a system for accredited registrars, like Registerfly, to manage and register the domains. It would save them having to develop their own backend registry. I've seen a few registrars use this actually.

As for the broken link, looks like they need to update their e-mail templates so they make sense!
