hey guys & Ladies,
I have registered a domain for one of my customers potbellys.net via stargate and pointed it immediately to my nameservers before I even created the account.
about a week later, I created the potbellys.net account and waited a few days for it to go active but it never did!!
the whois shows the right information and nameservers but it's not pointing anywhere...
any ideas?
thanks

Hiya Badr
StarGate domain - pointed, takes less than 12 hours to work. That's my usuall experiance. You might like to check the NS info again - it get messed up at StarGate sometimes - but I still love em ;)
Do a StarGate WhoIs - and check the NS again

Stargate?
In general, it takes 48 hours to propogate. If you use just IP forwarding it takes less than 24 hours (If not newly regtistered)

If you run "dig" against your nameservers, there are no entries for your domain in the nameservers defined for your domain.
If NS.MOORISHDESIGNS.COM is not your nameserver, you need to change this at your domain registrar.
Registrar changes should show up in the internic whois (in the root zone files) every 12 hours. If you have changed your domain to use different nameserver and it's been more than 12 hours, go back and change them again or contact your registrar for support.

NS.MOORISHDESIGNS.COM
and
NS2.MOORISHDESIGNS.COM
are my nameservers, that is why I am weirded out by the fact that it does not point to the account yet!

There do not appear to be any records in your nameservers for your domain.
dig @ns.moorishdesigns.com potbellys.net all
returns nothing for your domain. This means there are no records in your nameserver yet... You'll be waiting a long time for propagation if you don't actually have any records defined in your nameservers...

when I go to WHM, I do see the account.. it's there! I have opened tickets with both the host and the registrar! so far each says it's the other's problem!!!:bawling:

Domain Name: POTBELLYS.NET
Registrar: STARGATE COMMUNICATIONS, INC.
Whois Server: whois.stargateinc.com
Referral URL: http://www.stargateinc.com
Name Server: NS.MOORISHDESIGNS.COM
Name Server: NS2.MOORISHDESIGNS.COM
Updated Date: 27-jun-2002
It is definitly at your web host. Once a domain begins to show in WHOIS at internic, it has propagated to the root servers. Stargate, or any registrar, does not control how fast or slow a domain propagates. That happens at the root and DNS server level.

Look, there is no magic here. There are no records in the name servers for this domain. Until there are records in the nameservers for this domain, the domain will never resolve.
Talk to whomever maintains your nameservers and tell them to populate the zone file for your domain. If they have already done that, then they need to restart their DNS server - or whatever else they need to do to read in the zone data.

I just erased the account and recreated it hoping that it would fix things up!
