View Full Version : Site5 FTP Access
skiboy 02-11-2001, 01:14 AM I heard from a friend that he couldn't log in to his FTP on Site5 from an external application such as BulletProof and SmartFTP. Neither worked and the only way for him to log into his site was from their server's FTP. Is it just him or is that true for all of Site5's accounts?
SickofAds 02-11-2001, 01:20 AM Site5's collection of support documents is less than extensive. I couldn't find anything there that provided answers to common technical-type quesitons like this, only links to the help desk thing (Wonderdesk). But Matt from Site5 visits this forum, so he'll probably pop in with an answer.
Matt Lightner 02-11-2001, 05:17 AM Here I am... popping in with an answer. ;)
Skiboy,
He _should_ be able to login to his FTP account with any standard FTP client (including the above-mentioned). Let him know that if he sends in a support ticket, someone will look into it for him (http://helpdesk.site5.com).
Regards,
Matt

Madman 02-11-2001, 03:13 PM Actually Matt, Site5 does not help with anything through that rinkydink HelpDesk. I have written them on many occations and all I have received are beat-around-the-bush answers. You guys should look into putting customer service 1st as stated. Not to say that the overall hosting isnt great, Im just saying I wasn't amazed by the help I got, better yet didnt get. Like SickOfAds said, there isn't any help for subjects like these on the Site5 page. Thanks.
i can agree on that. it took about 3 days to get a response from the helpdesk.
joshdw1 02-11-2001, 04:31 PM Me and a friend recently purchaes a Site5 account. So far I would say their support has been very good. We have submitted around 6 or 7 tickets in our first week, and all were resolved very quickly. The service itself is also very good, lots of features, and so far the servers seem very fast.
Matt Lightner 02-11-2001, 05:07 PM Hi Matthew,
After hearing your complaint, I was quite surprised to say the least. I took the liberty of looking up your past support tickets, and I believe I found the ticket you are referring to (reference number 981076269).
Now, I didn't answer this ticket personally, however I can understand where you're coming from. I'm going to have a chat with the admin that answered this for you with regards to this kind of response. Note that it was not an absolutely horrendous response but there is definite room for improvement, as one of the issues you inquired about was not adequately addressed.
On a related note, if you ever have any complaints or suggestions regarding our service, by all means let us know! After all, how can we fix a problem if we aren't aware of it? If you send an email to management@site5.com, we will definitely look into the issue for you.
Sorry for the trouble. If there is anything I can do to help, personally... don't hesitate to drop me an email. ;)
Regards,
Matt
Madman 02-11-2001, 06:12 PM Thank you for taking the liberty and looking up the tickets. I understand that Site5 is a good site with great features and so on, but like I was saying, yes it can improve. Thank you once again, I appreciate it highly. On a lighter note, besides not being able to use an outside FTP client, all my problems have been resolved and my site is up and running. Note though that I figured most out myself.
skiboy 02-12-2001, 03:35 AM hey I have a question, Matt, on Site5 for the reseller package, it says you get an account which was from last year, I believe it was the Ultimate plan. Is that replaced with the Exec package?
skiboy 02-12-2001, 03:35 AM another thing, does Site5 support sites with UBB's or vB's?
Matt Lightner 02-12-2001, 03:39 AM The way the reseller system works is... you purchase either the WebExec or the WebPower and then you pay a one-time resellce license fee ($100). There are no additional monthly fees to be a reseller.
Also, we do support sites with UBB's and vB's.
If you have any further questions, don't hesitate to email sales@site5.com, or even myself. ;)
Regards,
Matt

Do you have a firewall at your location? Firewalls are probably the most frequent problem-causer for FTP clients (next to mis-typed passwords and the like).
Chicken 02-12-2001, 07:37 AM This is starting to sound a bit too much like a sales thread. Please email Matt directly, or sales@site5 (whatever the correct email address is), for more info, *or* I'd be happy to move this to the Advertsing Forum if everyone would rather work it that way.
Madman 02-12-2001, 04:06 PM Intellegent,
No, Im not behind a firewall, and if I were I would have figured that out along with any other problem. Thanks for the interest though and chicken, have Skiboy take it elsewhere, the people besides him were having a discussion about Site5, nothing to do with the services.
