Don't you just hate it when you have one of those days.
We decided to rebrand our forum with a more international appeal and a new domain name. One of the members suggested upgrading to the latestt version of the forum software. Wouldn't you know it, teh database screwed up and we lost all members and posts.

I also fell over and hurt myself yet again (you think by the age of 18 i would have learnt how to walk)

I hate days like this, is anyone else having a bad day today?

well today i had a customer sign up around 8:00 am had them setup and the welcome email out by 8:25 at 9:15 I get and email in CAPS saying that I CANNOT ACCESS FTP, PLEASE REFUND MY MONEY NOW, I REFUSE TO WORK WITH A COMPANY THAT CANNOT GET THINGS RIGHT ON THE FIRST TRY!!! even after the welcome email explains that you must wait 24-72 hours for DNS to resolve.. I emailed him explaining that in the welcome email it tells him that he must point his domain to my ns's and wait a day or two for them to resolve.. needless to say I got a nasty letter back about making up excuses and so on so I ran the refund and dumped the site.. I have learned that sometimes it is just better to let them go rather than offer them free month or anything because down the road they will be more trouble than there worth.. As we speak I get a call wondering "What you did to screw up my Frontpage, everytime I open it I get and internal error" geez.. looks like one of those days..

I just had some massive massive blood loss. So I guess it was a pretty bad day. Remember, people: never, EVER pick a scab. Even if it looks like it's ready to come off! Because it is not. :(

Moral of this story - BACKUP, backup, backup.

But you are only 18, it will take another one or two of these events before you learn.

Been there, done that.

Just a wild guess, you run vBulletin and you ran the web backup thing...

I've never seen it work :D PHP usually times out before a full backup can be made....

Its always best to backup via shell using mysqldump :D

One of my customer Emailed me something like this: " After I sign up for your webhosting service I get the 'blue screen' more often.
Please do something about it."

What a nightmare. I wonder if I can still keep my sanity if I read 20 of these kinda msg in one go.

I still see grown up folks backuping up entire LANS with narry a single restore, except for the day or two that they install the solution.

Then, many months later, when an important need arises, they realize all their backups are toast for one reason or another.

Anyway, the real moral is *backup* and *test restore, frequently*.

mwatkins, yeah i guess i learnt the hard way, ive now moved the forum to a server with phpmyadmin and a backup facility and changed the forum software over to phpbb instead of invisionbopard as the backup feature in invisionboard wont be out until the next release.
The forum should be back up tomorrow when the nameservers ahe changed over :) I think i like phpbb better anyway.

Oh yeah, i had another one of those bad days yesterday.

I managed tot otally destroy the forum

I dropped some metal poles on my foot

Went to wash the car and all the stupid car washes were closed and couldnt park anywhere near the house 2 wash it by hand.

Went to get money out and the cash machine was broken.

Trod on some glass and cut my foot

etc etc etc
Thankfully today seems better, so far anyway LOL

i just found some perfect lyrics on jmd's forum:

Yesterday

Yesterday,
All those backups seemed a waste of pay.
Now my database has gone away.
Oh I believe in yesterday.

Suddenly,
There's not half the files there used to be,
And there's a milestone hanging over me
The system crashed so suddenly.

I pushed something wrong
What it was I could not say.
Now all my data's gone
and I long for yesterday-ay-ay-ay.

Yesterday,
The need for back-ups seemed so far away.
I knew my data was all here to stay,
Now I believe in yesterday.
