View Full Version : New updates!
(SH)Saeed 02-10-2001, 07:09 AM Hi all,
I was just wondering if any of you have installed the security/update pakages from Cobalt (http://www.cobalt.com/support/download/raq3.eng.html) that were released on Dec 6, 2000 or later? Are all the new ones safe and good to install?
Thank you,
Saeed, RaQ3 Owner..
ive installed almost every single one except the latest
Starhost 02-10-2001, 01:30 PM I install all of them the time they are released. Because that is for security. Their are now some company's whose server has been broken down, because they don's update their servers regulary.
My advice update them as soon as possible!
allan 02-10-2001, 06:47 PM unfortunately I have been burned too often when installing the Cobalt updates, I usually wait two weeks and see what the reaction from the mailing list first :).

You haven't been using Cobalts very long. :) There's been many a time when I've seen Cobalt post an update to their downloads page, only to remove it 24 or 48 hours later. If you subscribe to the Cobalt list (http://www.cobalt.com/support/resources/usergroups.html) you'll frequently find people who have been burned because they installed a patch that had a problem when it was released.
DHWWnet 02-10-2001, 07:19 PM it happenned to my raq3 3 friggin times, the first one was when they *released* the os3 update about midnight 2 months ago, i dlded it and installed it, guess what the catch all email will not work, the lame site stats stopped working and a bunch of other things, So i called cobalt what is up withi it how come the update is no longer there.

Elijah,
Thank you for contacting Cobalt Networks
DO NOT DISTRIBUTE THAT PATCH!!!!!
The patch was pulled from distribution because there is a serious flaw which
somehow got past the Q.A. checks. It modifies /dev/null so that it's a standard
file, and the machine will fail to reboot after the patch is applied.
If you have not rebooted since applying the patch, please call us on the
telephone at 1-800-266-4378, so that one of our technicians can repair your
machine, or instruct you how to do so.

(SH)Saeed 02-11-2001, 12:54 AM Ok, so........... hmmmm........... yaah..... ok.....
..i guess i should wait a little then with the latest ones..
thanks
dutchie 02-11-2001, 04:59 AM Due to the size of this update, please place this package in /home/packages and install via the 'Loaded' option under the 'Install Software' screen.
Can anyone tell me how i get the package there ?
Please be more exact then "telnet it there" ;)
And did you update the os.4 ? anyone had problems with it already?
Chicken 02-11-2001, 05:59 AM I download it to my machine and then FTP'd it in as admin.
dutchie 02-11-2001, 06:41 AM I work with windows, so after i reconstructed the original filename, do i have to set any permissions to it ?
dutchie 02-11-2001, 08:09 AM 'catch-all' email aliases added manually before the update will not function in the same way after the update. Please remove all email domain aliases before installing this update.
What does this mean ?
Do i have to remove all aliasses from every site on my raq ?!
Or can i ignore this message ?
I noticed most (if not all) pkg numbers in this patch are already installed on my raq, do i still have to install this one ?
Chicken 02-11-2001, 12:47 PM Well, I'd look to the list. One, I don't run a RaQ3 anymore, so I'm not sure I could help you with things like this. I did apply a similar patch to the RaQ4 and I haven't noticed disaster quite yet, but there's still time.
You can download it, as is, to your HD, and upload it without having to change (reconstruct?), anything, or alter permissions, etc.
I don't know about the email aliases and wonder if I missed that with my update :) *eeak*
