Hey I have a question for anywone willing to answer. I'll be switching my domains to a new host within the next few days. One of my biggest concerns is with the quality of the eMail filtering. Which host does the best/offers the most for protecting my mailbox? My current host does almost nothing to block open relays and with one eMail address in particular, I receive 40-100 junk mails a day. I haven't even published or used this address in a couple of years. Anyone with some info for me?

Mystikal,
If your host is using Cpanel control panel, under Mail Center, there is the Mail Filter in which you could set to ignore all emails from a specific email or with a certain subject title or something like that.
Junk mails or spam is sadly a common occurence and has nothing to do with having an Open Relay. An Open Relay would allow anyone to send mails through your SMTP servers. Most host would have that blocked and enabled the Authenticate before Sending feature.
Since you are moving your sites, you could write to the new host and asking how to minimize spam. There is no real way of removing it all together.
All the best in your new hosting.

I think he meant the host's mail server blocking emails coming from IPs that are known to be open relays. Something like www.njabl.org.

Hi Mystikal,
Just about any host that offers CPanel as their control panel would be something too look. CPanel has a feature called "Spam Assassin" than helps a lot with controlling the amount of spam you receive.
Good luck on your search for a host,

Many ISPS have Postini.com filtering now, for anti spam and anti virus email filtering.
Do a search on google for "web hosting postini" and you'll get a bunch of links of web hosts who offer it.
(Or you could probably email postini.com directly and ask them to make a recommendation of a GOOD web host)

Allera was extactly correct when explaining my statement.
FDrive, my host uses Spam Assassin. It's absolutely useless as it is configured. It does nothing but mark mail that it thinks is spam. The crap still ends up in my mailbox. It isn't even 95% accurate or very customizable. How does that help me? I want to block anything coming from an IP that is a known open relay. My research shows that my current host basically does nothing for advanced eMail filtering.
rtsit, thanks. Your recommendation may be helpful.
