View Full Version : Why PayPal?
Jayke 12-29-2006, 12:52 PM Why use PayPal? Not Google?
I'm using Google for mine, as I had too many problems with PayPal, and they even froze one of my friends account for getting two thousand dollars transitted to it in one day.
LiquidWebPatrick 12-29-2006, 02:09 PM They also doubled paid an order I had. The seller had to refund me the money, and I know that CC error out when you try to run the same amount within a few minutes of each other.
Jayke 12-29-2006, 02:15 PM I used PayPal to buy a domain yesterday, the domain cost six dollars I ended up paying thirteen.

That has nothing to do with Paypal. The buyer should not have to pay any fees or anything of the sort. The person who is receiving the money gets fees taken out.
Paypal is used because it is extremely popular, and very convenient. It also helps both parties get what they're supposed to, and protect both. Although that can't always be the case.
Jame$ 12-29-2006, 02:43 PM Paypal - Easy and feels safer than giving your CC number out to 20 different vendors.

Exactly! and there is no hidden charges as well :P
Zafar Ahmed 12-29-2006, 05:17 PM I'm nothing without Paypal , I can't have it . Paypal does not support my country.
what a shame :(
Corey Bryant 12-29-2006, 05:48 PM Paypal has a reputation for offering payment services. While that reputation might not be good for some - usually you cannot beat it for small transactions, etc.
The more times you use a service or anything, the more chances you are going to have that something will go wrong. It is inevitable. It might take some people a long time - but it will happen.
Google is just starting out in this. Will they succeed? I hope they do - not to burn Paypal, but to help merchants succeed.
Oceanworld 12-29-2006, 08:17 PM Paypal accept international sellers.
Google is not, yet.
Jayke 12-30-2006, 01:02 AM Google accepts from over seventy countries <.<
I realized Google's transaction fees are cheaper... <.<

It is free until the end of 2007!
Jayke 12-30-2006, 02:51 PM I know that, that is just from the sellers side, I mean when you pay, like PayPal charges extra to extract funds from a credit card, Google charges less.
The percentage taken from when it costs is going to be cheaper, just one percent. PayPal is about two dollars for every twenty isn't it?
daveredfern 12-30-2006, 04:29 PM paypal has gone really high lately on their fees. it used to be really low but not it is around 10-15%!!
Flintstone 12-30-2006, 05:23 PM Paypal also offer very little protection in the case of Fraud. If somebody buys a PC from you with a fraudulant credit card and you send it out Paypal will inform you about the fraud and you will receive no money back from them.
Result, you gave somebody a PC and can't do anything about it. They may be popular but they are not the best.
AH-Tina 12-30-2006, 05:35 PM Paypal also offer very little protection in the case of Fraud. If somebody buys a PC from you with a fraudulant credit card and you send it out Paypal will inform you about the fraud and you will receive no money back from them.

...and how are credit card companies any different? Its not Paypal's job to protect you against fraudulant orders, its YOUR job as a merchant to protect yourself.

daveredfern 12-30-2006, 05:40 PM google checkout doesn't look bad but paypal is supported on a lot of sites and scripts.
HIU-Jay 12-30-2006, 09:00 PM paypal has gone really high lately on their fees. it used to be really low but not it is around 10-15%!!
Last I checked, Paypal's fees were: 2.9% + $0.30 USD
Advancewebsoft 01-04-2007, 09:51 PM Hmm.
Seems like google is better anyway, even as it is not supported yet outside USA.
But you will not have to create an account at the store (as it is for those using paypal) and simply click the google checkout button that all! No accounts at thousand of stores! Single, poerful google checkout account!
For sellers a free way here: osCommerce + Google Checkout contribution:
Osc - http://www.oscommerce.com
Google Checkout - http://www.advancewebsoft.com/downloads/free-scripts/google-checkout-level-1-for-oscommerce-p.html
free :)

what a shame :(
Not really a shame... I had so much trouble as they limited my account for no reason. I lost money from that and could not get what was in my account for 6 month ( > $1300). After that, they saw that nobody complained and gave me my money. After that, I received an email telling me that they didn't want to do business with me. I called but was unable to have a reason.
Anybody who's using this service should read the TOS twice and understand all they can go (freezing your money without any reason, go take money in your linked bank account, ...).
Horror stories are not rare....

That's a pretty naive quote. Sorry but if I am receiving money through paypal, from another paypal account then Paypal has responsibility.
Next thing you are going to tell me that is that it's not the individuals fault, it's their bosses for paying them the money to spend.
Your way of thinking doesn't wash up too well.
Regards,
Joel
LemCorp-Nahuel 01-12-2007, 12:42 AM I'm using Paypal and 2CheckOut and 99% of the users I got (for WebDesign, Hosting or other services) uses paypal (Even if they don't have an account).
Never had a problem with it, works really great. And the fees are ok, if I compare it with other 3PP is the best, and free!
So, Why Paypal? Because is the best 3PP I know! (Second place for 2CheckOut).
Drewtjuh 01-12-2007, 03:02 AM Paypal likes to freeze accounts all the time, I use moneybookers for international payments, much better and lower fee's
Dmain 01-12-2007, 07:29 AM Google is trying to get a piece of action in everything. eBay/PayPal has focused purposes.

Lower fees? as far as I remember MoneyBookers's fees rounded the 8% / 10% PT.
Paypal is 2,3% plus 0,30Cents.
Very hard to defeat that!
