I am using visualroute (http://www.visualroute.com), especially from their server in Hong Kong (http://visualroute.cgan.com.hk/).

Let's enter vdi.net into the Host/URL box. the result I got showed that it took a data packet virtually no time to be send from Hong Kong to San Jose, CA. On the other hand, it took thousands of ms for a data packet to be send from San Jose, CA to vdi.net data center.... I expect the other way around, right? For sure, the pipe going from Hong Kong to San Jose could not even match the pipes we use here in US.... So what's going on?

cheers,

It's not so much the size of the pipe as the amount of people trying to use it simultaneously. My guess is that the number of people in Asia trying to access US-based sites is miniscule compaired to the number of Americans trying to access US-based sites. Also remember that San Jose is part of the Silicon Valley, probably the highest data traffic locale in the world (just a guess, don't have the numbers in front of me).
