I went through many hosting plans, most of them(especially the famous/pop ones) don't offer the unlimited subdomain?
Does anybody know the reason? Is it because of technique difficulity or money(lots redirection==>lots traffic)?
If someone offers unlimited subdomain , how can I trust them?
Is there any catch?
Thanks!

I think if the CP doesn't do it, then the host has to manually (or somewhat manually) set it up. And if they have to do that, then you aren't likely to get 'unlimited' ( ::shudder:: )... a whole lot.

You can NEVER trust any 'unlimited' words because there is no catch for unlimited.

Not true. In the case of sub-domains, it is easy to provide unlimited sub-domains. It is just as easy to turn http://anything.yourname.com (/anything) into the docroot and make it a sub-domain.
So in this sense, I believe unlimited sub-domains are possible. :)

The technical part of setting up subdomains is easy enough.
The reasons many hosts don't offer them may be a more practical matter. If they did, it would be possible to have several different and totally unrelated sites running out of the same account. From a certain perspective, that wouldn't be fair if the objective were to use a singkle account (for say $10 a month) to host several sites with different owners.
It's a bit like sneaking extra people in for free in a car going to a drive in movie theater, except that resources are consumed with hosting. Somebody is getting in without paying their share.
I'm sure there are other perspectives. That's just one.

Oh then it would be safe to say that if I don't use all my bandwidth for the month that it should carry over to the next month plus what I get for the next month?
So lets see the site used 1000Mb but has 2000Mb left, oh it's the next month I get 3000Mb again Plus my 2000MB of unused woohoo 5000MB of transfer this month.

iambhq, if your host offers wildcard subdomains, you can get unlimited subdomains. So ask for this feature when looking for hosts.

No, it wouldn't be safe at all to say that as you would be completely wrong. There was a good discussion about all this last year. To summarize, the monthly fee that you pay for a web site covers a lot of things, including the alloted bandwidth. It's a package deal. You don't get any special breaks because you don't use the whole package.

hehe duster
So somebody is paying more then their share.
Course we know where the extra funds go. I don't think that is in question.
Though I have seen some terms state you cannot use that extra space for tons of pictures and storage. So I guess it couldn't be a packaged deal.
I am actually thinking about doing a you pay for what you use. But that'll be another thread in another area.

Hello
If you use subdomains with Cpanel3 it clogs up the accounts listing in Web Host Manager as each subdomain is listed as a seperate account.
When we have customers who really want unlimited subdomains I enable wildcards on the DNS and send them a php script that does the same job for them without the clog up problem.
