If so, how is it? are they selling it in any form other than as an appliance? I was under the impression it came in appliance form only. Thats why we've basically ignored it up until this point. I refuse to put out billing / accounting / support systems into a "black box" appliance that we have little or no control over and some 3rd party may or may not have access to. kris1351 12-23-2006, 08:10 AM It looks like a great product, but is appliance only from what I have read. There are some positives to that situation though. With them controlling the hardware that means no conflicts with the software and they can lock it down to be more secure of a solution. Read the PDF information on it and see some of the names that have adopted it already. TheSpidre 12-23-2006, 12:42 PM Does Ubersmith DE exclude the billingsystem Ubersmith Professional or is it a complete solution? >With them controlling the hardware that means no conflicts with the software and they can lock it down to be more secure of a solution. Does CPanel have any problems with any servers? It works on ANY server that has the required OS installed. IMO, ubersmith DE is nothing different. They should support any hardware/software platform that has the needed software installed (apache, php, mysql). So far they are the only available option, as Adam Harris (Iracks/NOCSW) has just decided to scam everyone around and walk away leaving frustrated customers who paid for nothing.. Nocwizard has got a new owner and is hopefully getting backed by a responsible team who will improve it and make it a possible alternative to ubersmith DE.. mdrussell 12-29-2006, 07:08 AM Ubersmith DE is only available in appliance form. This is not necessarily a bad thing; it brings in many systems into one (billing, helpdesk, power distribution, monitoring) and is definitely well priced when this is considered.... The appliance is shipped to you to be installed in your own facility, so they don't control the hardware. I also understand that they are flexible in how the updates are applied and will work with you on this. mdrussell 12-29-2006, 07:20 AM are they selling it in any form other than as an appliance? I refuse to put out billing / accounting / support systems into a "black box" appliance that we have little or no control over and some 3rd party may or may not have access to. This was a concern for us too. Ubersmith have access to the appliance which is basically the data gathering device; SNMP traps, monitoring, etc. We are then going to be splitting up the other components to seperate servers for added security, etc. nopzor 12-29-2006, 05:50 PM The appliance box is just for backend traffic and monitoring data storage and polling. This was a concern for us too, but all billing data and customer data is stored on the ubersmith frontend (which is downloadable and running on your own infrastructure which Ubersmith has no access to). Personally I am fine with the appliance approach since it is doing very specialized tasks that have to be high performance / custom in nature. Ubersmith monitors the appliance around the clock and they have told us of a few problems before we even noticed them. 1.0 is out and seems to be very stable. I think a bit more polishing around the edges is needed, but already us and other 'Launch Partners' are benefitting from the integrated management that UBER DE 1.0 provides. Its very well thought out and solves a bunch of problems oriented towards service providers. |
