Hi,

I am located in Canada, have over three years designing professional web sites, and am currently looking to work on some new projects from anywhere around the world. I have all of the latest design technologies, including Flash 5, PhotoShop 5.5, Fireworks 4, etc.

I actually am an author in one of the upcoming Flash 5 book on Dynamic Content from the 'Friends of ED' series due out next month (hopefully) (http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/1903450063/qid%3D974998322/sr%3D1-26/ 105-5412422-8010346)

I have also done some writing as well for gif.com on Flash with a review and tutorial, with more to come.

Here are a few sample sites for you to have a look at:

http://www.webryder.com is my own site which is in the process of being updated (hopefully for the 15th of February - feel free to ask for a sneak peek)....
http://www.groceryinsider.com
http://www.is.ca
http://www.webryder.com/MMMUG
http://www.tethystech.com
http://www.learningdesignstudios.com is an organization that I worked for in 1999 and some of 2000

If you have any questions please do not hesitate to ask by emailing me directly !

Thank You,

Shawn Ryder

Actually I mentioned this site in another post earlier tonight but it might interest you too.

Plenty of clients up for grabs if you have the right deal for them.

Thanks Greg,

Go there once in a while - I find it very brutal, people totally undercut one another I find. A few times I have taken the time to put together some detailed bids - only for it to be won by the cheapest bid and the quality certianly shows.

i agree, elance seem to be a place for small kids to hang around who really got nothing to do... some so called "proposals" are like $100 bucks... would a pro even bother looking at a 100 buck offer? i certainly wouldn't.

I've tried eLance a couple times and never had good luck with it. I was always underpriced by someone who's qualifications just weren't up to par for what they wanted to do. You might want to try some job listing sites, put your resume out.

smarterwork.com is another such place, but I`m not saying it`s better. Maybe they have a different pricing culture.

Certainly there are a lot of complete amateurs plying their trades at elance. We've used it a couple of times to buy services and basically you get flooded with a bunch of really low bids that if you take a minute to look at the credentials and portfolios of the bidders you can dismiss right away.

I've never used it as a service provider, and probably wouldn't.

Wish there were more like you on there JayC - just today put bids in on a couple of projects and sure enough got rejected. Yet when I went back all of the rejected bidders were the highest priced ones and only low bidders left.... ;)

klisis,

If you don't mind could you give me the specifications of what browser, operating system, etc you are using ?

It was designed for Flash 5 so that may be a problem. I am going to put in a Flash check and if it doesn't detect it will go and give directions to downloading the plug-in.

Thanks,
Shawn

Nevermind that, it's working now. It must have been crashed by something else.

Yet when I went back all of the rejected bidders were the highest priced ones and only low bidders left.... Well, I suppose not everyone does approach it the way I do, but FYI: usually I don't decline bids because of the price; I just let my selection of the winner do the declining for me. But for a project that gets a lot of bids it can be helpful to thin them out a little. Even then, though, the bids I decline are usually those that have nothing to say about the project I posted. I post a description specific to the project, and get dozens of bidders just pasting their boilerplate desctiption of their work or a list of urls. I decline those, with the message "bid description did not match project posted" or something. If a bidder doesn't take the time to read my project description, I'm not taking the time to consider their bid.

If I do decline because of price, it's because the price is wildly out of line -- $12,000 for a project where everyone else was $500-700 for example, on a project I posted a couple of weeks ago.
