I need some personal recommendations for mp3 players (not looking for those mp3/cd combo players)

I've been looking at the NEX II - http://www.frontierlabs.com

it has compact flash I, II, and ibm macrodrive compatibility, no internal memory but compact flash is rather cheap nowadays anyways. The macrodrive, although expensive, is 1gb and NEX II can be used as a portable harddrive, lol - I thought that was cool... I can get it probably around high 80s or $90 - I was just looking around and found the NEXII, was wondering if anyone has it already and what they think.

I'm also looking for other recommendations ;)

I have never used the NEX II mp3 player before, but it looks very interesting. Especially its compatibility with IBM's 1GB Microdrive (note: not macrodrive). But like you mentioned, the microdrive runs for about $250-300 so its pricey if just for MP3 usage.

I'm probably going to get one, and if you haven't bought one yourself in about 1 or 2 weeks, I'll let you know how it is.

I read in Popular Science a while back (they were reviewing the iPod and it's many capablilties other than an mp3 player) and I read that there was software that made the iPod compatable with a PC, you may wanna search around the Popular Science site.

Anyway I have the Nike/Sonic Blue player, I've read many complaints on it, but have had no issues with it since, it works great for me, wear it around my arm when I workout and don't have to worry about it being in my way.

anyways about the NEX II, sorry for the macrodrive instead of the microdrive, I dunno what got into me ;)

lol, the reviews from mp3.com, slashdot have the nex ii standards set at high with impressive sound quality for being so small - im planning on getting it through ebay (it'll be $79 + 9 in shipping) so its not too expensive nor is it too cheap.

if anyone gets it or have it already, let me know what you think about it :)
