Most of them are not strictly CMS, but if I had to pick one there I would say Mambo.

I love Joomla!

Same as Mambo. But the Mambo developers got mad and went on there own to Joomla. Also most developers left Mambo to go make mods and components for Joomla. Mambo has new developers. But Joomla 2.0 (in beta) is going to be awsome. So if you are a true opensource lover. You will love Joomla. Great community and lots of mods and components.

I like www.Textpattern.com
You can have different sections, each with its own template, and customize titles, URLS & keywords for each article.
I've also found that www.pmwiki.com works as nice customizable CMS.

wordpress is the best featured blog if not the sanest, oscommerce is the best free shopping cart, i like yabb/smf as a standalone forum but vanilla (http://getvanilla.com/) should be tried out.

the best cms?

e107 of course :D

webhostforsap,

Why are you posting this exact same thread on various other forums around the web as well?

It depends really in your needs. Wordpress is really easy and fun to use, with lots of good plugins. Drupal is excellent, and used by some huge sites, but, it has a bigger learning curve.

I'd prefer to use Subdreamer, but that's not on there.
So:

Of what you list Community Server is by far the most elaborate and has a TON of built in stuff. BUT, it's also very touchy, and permissions are delicate. I ran it for a customer for a couple years. it's not easy to work with if you don't know asp.

If you want something that is a real publishing platform, there's nothing I've ever seen that can compete with phpcow. It's not cheap but the question is what you're going to do. right out of the box phpcow is great, and the backend is just jam packed with *stuff*

Here's an exampl of what it looks like straight out of the box:
http://demo.phpcow.com/skins/a02/

That's one of the built in templates. I mean you can have a site that rivals most news sites online in 20 minutes. but of course you would need a lot of contributors to make it work. I bought the branded verion (700) and it's going to be a month before i"m even ready to go live.

Depends on what you have in mind to build. But i prefer joomla because ot the large support comunity and available addons

$395 to remove the "Powered by PHPCOW" is a bit excessive to me. Looks like some pretty good software, but quite expensive for that price.
