Ah never mind about complaining to them, they are spamemrs hosted by spammers, who are hosted by spammers.

Just block their entire C-Class.

Cool, they come from the same area code as all those places you see in movies. Hmm they're missing a number - I wonder if it's 5

I wonder what it's like there. :D

At least you post the headers too. That's important, but often not done.

I'm beginning to think we need a separate forum for spam-copping and site-copying. :)

Clearwater Fl, the haven of spammers.

Just curious, why is this that haven for spammers?

I get this same e-mail about once a week. It even goes to an e-mail address I don't have published with any site I have worked on. Originally, this was being sent by OctaneHost (which used the same logo and layout). I've sent them many messages to remove me from their distribution list and all have failed. If another comes through, I plan on contacting their states Attorney General. Which in this case it looks like it's Florida. Although if the rest of the information is invalid, who's to say that they aren't lying about that as well...

I can not get rid of their spam, each time I "unsubscribe" (like I ever "subscribe" in the first place), they come out with a new address and spam me again. Check this out:

http://www.sitehoster.net
http://www.yourhostbiz.com
http://www.hivelocity.net

I am sure there are tons more, and I will continue to get their spam

Actually, if they had brains in their heads they would see that we provide the very same services as they do.

Maybe I should signup and take all my customers off my cosy servers and put them on the spammers server, I am sure the uptime and reliability will greatly improve.

It tells the spammers your address is active!

Interesting. Well, add http://www.octanehost.com to the list. I wonder how much their states Attorney General will like this sort of scam. I know in Michigan, the Attorney General here despises Internet frauds like this. Time to write that letter.

Call Steve on 1-866-858-HOST (4678) and ask about their spam policy.

I get several emails from these guys each week, so I called them today.
He was very friendly until I mentioned that I didnt appreciate being spammed.
Then he just hung up. How strange.

Oh' my... I'm actually just getting control of myself after laughing so hard. Look at this chat session that just took place between myself and a Brian Farrow at YourHostBiz...

** You are now speaking with Brian Farrow, Support. **
Brian Farrow : may I help you?

markblair : Sure. I have a quick comment.

Brian Farrow : ok

markblair : Before you decide to disconnect me, here this. Your company is consistantly spamming non-members. Since this is illegal in many states, I highly suggest you stop. I have received spam from several domain names that all point back to the same place. The next piece of spam I receive from you will be turned over the the Florida Attorney General's office. I currently reside in Michigan and in this state, spam is not accepted. I've had our Attorney General go after others and I know she is up for the task to take on your many companies. I trust you understand the importance of this issue.

Brian Farrow : ok

markblair : So far I have received spam from yourhostbiz, octanehost, and a couple of others. How do I get this to stop since sending a removal request isn't working?

Your party has left this session.

It only took 2 minutes and 10 seconds on this one. Is that a record? Too funny. Of course this won't stop but I thought I'd enjoy in this fun as others have already done so. :D :D :D

LOL...that`s funny.

But what`s the point or advantage to having four different sites that are exactly the same site?

That would get confusing or something...

AppCoder

As surprising as this may sound the OptOut method on the app they are using actually works. They purchased an app I had wrote for some of my clients (MailList Manager)and asked it be modified some for link tracking, but all the native code is still there which I will be happy to post to show that it does actually move the address to an optout list while removing all information from any table that can be used to send out a list. Over the weekend code will be added to not link the OptOut to one User of the system but instead to all users of the server (Never considered they would use different domains. I mean the thing was written as a mail list manager). Also if you get spammed from them just go to the following URL http://SpammingDomain.com/OptOut2.asp . By monday there will also be a feature to remove you from all domains listed in the app. Right now it just removes for each user depending on the host header that is used to determine who sent out the message. Also I have informed them that it might be a good idea not to disconect people wanting to be removed. In the app there is a feature to block whole domains. Send a mail or get a hold of them and ask you domain be removed completely.

Shannon
06-28-2002, 09:43 AM
it does actually move the address to an optout list And just what, may I ask, keeps the unscrupulus spam-miester from selling THIS optout list to other spammers? Think about it.. what's worth more, a list of 10k possible email addresses, or a list of 10k email addresses that are known to be valid. :stickout

But sadly, the point is, opt-out doesn't work, too many people have been burned by spamscammers who DO sell their 'remove-me' list, or who just take those 'Remove-me' clicks and add them into the known good pile. Unless the email is actually from a large company or organization that I know personally, or do business with, I never trust the "Click here to be removed!" crap, I just forward to spamcop, and delete.

Not to say what you wrote is false but what you wrote is false. :) At least in my case. I've selected the 'Remove Me' option several times, although now I don't think I should have because I just ended up getting more spam from them. I have sent them a nice letter complaining and still I received their spam. The last thing I tried was contacting them via chat and so far, no spam. I guess we'll see if that works or if I have to go further with this.

Remove this and all addresses within the whatever.com domains from your
distribution lists immediately.
We have no existing business relationship, nor do we wish to establish one.
We do not do business with spammers. Not now. Not ever.
You are using our resources for your gain without our permission or
compensation.
Any further contact from your domain to any address within this domain
will indicate tacit agreement to your use of our resources
at our published billing rate of US$125 per hour with a 10
hour minimum.

Clear enough?

If I`m bored, I take a look at who sent the spam, find out their hosting company, name of the tech contact for the spamvertised domain, and send them a copy of the email above (copied from some long ago link from slashdot).

A couple of places have actually stopped sending spam, but sadly, no cheques have arrived - as yet !

ForumsAddict: It seems the main guy behind the spams is a "Brian Farrow" from florda. Hit google groups on him, big spam track record, I'd like to compile some info on him. He may just be the one hired by ***********.com : sitehoster.net : octanehost.com.... etc, at least spam helps to narrow down the number of hosts I would ever move to.

Please wait for a site operator to respond.
You are now chatting with 'Steve'
you: hey
Steve: Hello. How may I assist you?
Steve: hi
you: Well, from what I have seen your service seems great
you: But, why do you have to spam to get it promoted?
Steve: to get people like you to look at our plans
Steve: its a great plan and a great service
Steve: and the emails work
you: what do you mean by "people like you"
you: it leaves a bad taste in a lot of people's mouth, though
Steve: I understand. But those people are going to have to get over it. Just hit delete,. Unsubscribe if you do not want more. its that easy
Steve: Our REseller Plans are the best you will find anywhere.
you: as far as I know, a lot of them try in vain
Steve: that shouldn't be
you: well, ok, I will consider your offers in the nearby future
Steve: you will not be disappointed.

you: I TRY TO, BUT IT ALWAYS COMES BACK SAYING THE EMAIL ADDRESS IS NOT VALID
Steve: if you give me your email address right now I will see that you are removed.. I am not sure why the unsubscibe link is not working
you: THE SECOND PARAGRAPH OF YOUR POLICIES STATES THAT SPAM IS NOT TOLERARTED
Steve: that is correct
you: SO WHY ARE SO MANY PEOPLE RECEIVING THIS TYPE OF EMAIL FROM *********** AND SITEHOSTER?
Steve: did you have any questions about our plans. I can remove you if you give me your address

He seems like a nice guy? Don't take this wrong but comments like the ones listed below are not from "nice guys", just from sales people wanting nothing more than a few extra dollars from you or anyone else.

Steve: to get people like you to look at our plans
Steve: its a great plan and a great service
Steve: and the emails work

Steve: I understand. But those people are going to have to get over it. Just hit delete,. Unsubscribe if you do not want more. its that easy

...They don't care if you sign up. Someone else will and obviously people are since they are still around spamming. I think Steve needs to be the one to "get over it" because I personally would never do business with a company that spams.
