I'll be doing a research project on domain-related issues and the data is currently stored in MS Access.

Do I have to use a Windows host or can the database be converted to MySQL?

(I've always used Linux hosts. Windows hosting is completely new to me and I've heard it's more expensive in general. For this project I only need about 50 MB to begin with and there'll be lots of trial and error so I'd really rather keep it as simple as possible.)

There is MySQL for Windows.

Post a request for your hosting in the requests board.

The good news is that it's relatively easy to convert a MS Access database to MySQL. There is a guide at:

http://www.flatmysql.com/help/access.htm

And the bad news is that there is no bad news. Oh wait, that's good news as well. :D

I'd love to but I have to first determine if I must use Windows, which I know nothing about.

If Access can be converted to MySQL I'll just use a Unix/Linux host. If not, I'll shop for a Windows host.
