Does anyone know anything about the motherboard used in a Raq4 and what/who third party might have refurbs or replacments for one?

One of our Raq4s got its Eprom hosed during an update and its a year our of its warranty with Sun (who for some reason calls it a custom box since it came with a 30gig harddrive in its day, so warranty started the day it was boxed, not registered, grr). They say we can send it back for 750 bucks for 6-8 weeks (HA.... NO......) or said we can find a third party to get parts from (yes, they said that). The whole thing is fine, we just need a new dual nic mobo since the rom chip is soldered to it. We can't find anyone on the net who has parts, and sun won't tell us anything. So if anyone knows anything or has some spares we are willing to pay for, PLEASE RESPOND! We might even take a striped down used 4i.

We are also looking for a Mobo, but a Raq3 one.

Same problem occured and the server has been shelved ever since for a year and a half.

I take it no one has any input? Everyones raq has never had a problem like this (aside from Cephren)?

Calling Sun again, they tell us $725 to RMA it for two months where an extra 200 bucks will get us a whole new raq. Or, they told us to call a reseller and ask them to order us a new mobo, which we tried today and everyone told us such a thing was impossible..

Seriously, I find it hard to believe that this brand new server is a $1000 paperweight because of one little rom chip and a perfectly fine $725 mobo.....

Yes i am kind surpised that no one else has any problems

I wonder where in the world do they store the parts??????
We are having so much problems locating it. Weve tried resellers. no luck. Called in Sun and pretty much the money can buy a used raq.

I mean locating hard drives, fans, cpu and hard drives is kiddie stuff............ but locating a mobo is so hard.

I have been trying to hunt down some motherboards myself, got alot of RaQ2 and 3's that need em. I have called everyone and their mother at Sun....have actually had a few people ask me what a RaQ is!

Bottom line is this, if your Cobalt is out of warranty and your mobo pukes, you either RMA for $700.00+ or chunk it. I for one think it's a load of crap, Sun has one of the largest spares/replacement parts programs in the world, as long as it's not Cobalt. We should be able to buy parts for up to 5 years, I mean come on guys, there ain't much to these boxes and I can get everything but motherboards.
