Anyone know the latest on the KPNQwest / E-bone situation?

I haven't been following it as much as I was last week because they came up with a temporary solution, but it'd be a shame to see England fall of the internet within the next couple weeks. :rolleyes:

I haven't seen a lot of updates at http://live.save-ebone.com so I figured maybe someone else had been following the story?

Yea I heard about this the other week as apparantly the majority of freeserves traffic goes through them and they are one of the biggest ISP's in the UK (?)

It does look worrying.

They are one of the biggest backbones in the UK I believe, and it could cause some major problems, but I'm not sure how and when we would notice the effects. If anything happened and it came to that, I can't imagine the administrators would unplug all their hard work. They would probably let it deteriorate itself.

I highly doubt "England will fall off the internet" within the next couple of weeks. The country that uses KBNQwest is Holland, so I believe they would be most affected.
Many British ISP's are just re-routing their traffic through many of the over Tier-1 providers, and there are a lot of others, so it shouldn't be a problem.

Now if LINX was shut down, then I may be less optimistic...

KPNQwest is one of the players in the Netherlands... but not the only one nor the biggest..


btw, last I heard (over the weekend) a judge has ordered that funds available right now will first be used to keep the network running and *after* that their debt will be paid.... so it's all good for now....

i use chello here in austria, and last i heard from someone i know they dropped their connections to to qwest and are now using MFN, level3, telia, and their own pipes.

worked out good for me, now i'm going direct into the US, no more bouncing around europe to get to new york.

KPQwest has a lot of network capacity, probably the most out of any player in Europe - but the simple fact is, most of it is not used. As for the UK, as far as I am aware KPNQwest does not have a network inside the UK, they merely connect their Euro-rings into the UK from mainland Europe. There are plenty of other players coming into the UK such as Level3 etc. that can all quite easily handle the traffic.

There is an offer of €60.000.000 on the KPNQwest network.

just read that ams-ix has cut off 6 out of 7 links of kpnqwest.

If you think it's bad with KPNQwest, just wait till MCI WorldCom go bankrupt - which is looking very likely. There are also quite a lot of other carriers that look like they are going to go down the pan too.

That 1gbit connection at ams-ix will be shut down on 1st of july. Almost everybody that I know of has rerouted their traffic, but I feel sorry who are single-homed @kpnqwest.

hrm, there is more then a single gig-e at ams-ix of kpnqwest.
