I'm curious to know if anyone clicks on those things. They were around for a long time before I even realized Google offered the service (I use Google integrated into the search bar of my browser, which means I see no extra crap, just search results).

I suppose there is a higher chance I'd click on an AdWord ad than on a banner ad, although the stats would be skewed because I've only clicked on a banner ad once in my life.

Then you should see them, because they appear on the results pages not on the Google home page, which is the only thing you're not seeing. :)

Adwords Select results also get syndicated to other search engines, and on some (aol, for example) are placed more prominently than they are at Google.

my account there it was about $7.50 a click for a decent placement. I found it not worth it really too many sport clickers.

Googlify your browser:
http://www.google.com/options/defaults.html#default

The only time I ever visit the main Google interface is when I want to look at their cache.
