This is incredible fast FT search engine published under GPL license so you can modify it as you like.

Run as daemon Sphinx can be accessed from localhost or remote web box via API (list includes PHP, Python and more).

Fully MySQL-compatible it also can be run as MySQL5 storage engine.

I use 0.9.7-RC1 for my projects like tutorial search (http://look4docs.com/) and dental links collection (http://dent4us.com/) and can recommend it as stable and fast FT engine.
