What does everyone use to track their revenue, taxes, etc..?

We currently use Modernbill for all of our client tracking, etc..but it severely lacks a powerful financial side of things such as month to month revenue, year to year revenue, tax payments, etc..

Does anyone use Quickbooks to keep and organize these records? Wonder if there's a way to import data from Mbill to Quickbooks and the like via cvs format.

We do use quickbooks and modernbill - but modernbill is useless for that purpose as it does not record net income. Export from paypal and your CC processor is the way to go.

Quickbooks work fairly well for you eh? What year version do you have?

We use MS Small Business accounting (Freebee with the ActionPack subscription we have).

It does a good job.

Modernbill is just a billing software to handle all the online side of transactions. You an do like we are and build hooks so you can pull the data from ModernBill and import it directly into your accounting software.

We use QuickBooks Online Edition to handle all expenses, reporting, etc. We prefer this to a desktop application because it's hosted and accessible anywhere. ModernBill is designed to be a billing program, but it is not a full accounting program -- you still need something else to track your general business ledger so that you can track income, expenses and prepare the necessary reports for your accountant.

Thank you for the input. We had been using Modernbill for a while and I agree with everything you all said above.

While online editions are nice, there's always Logmein....:) Is there any single edition that you would recommend over the others?

Edition depends on the number of accounts you have - at least that's what I heard. Some can't handle more than one or two accounts. Ask your accountant, s/he should know.

Hi,

You can use Exponent Free at no cost now, and it will actually do your taxes for you if you put all of your orders, A/R and A/P transactions into it.

To be honest, QuickBooks Simple Start is working great for us so far. We used to use Free Accounting, which was a great package, but too complicated to use (our needs were not that complex). So, we switched to QuickBooks, and I know that I've certainly been happy with it.

I'll take a look at quickbooks and the free programs mentioned here. We have used Quickbooks before and it seemed as if it was a bit too complicated for our needs, but looks as if I'd have to re-evaluate it.

The regular version of QuickBooks is very complicated. But the Simple Start edition is pretty straight-forward.

With the Simple Edition of Quickbooks, you are able to import data as well as track monthly and yearly net income, revenue, etc...? Does the program automatically adjust the totals when you put in a new expense or a new sale?

Perhaps I should ask these questions to the Intuit people instead. But if you could answer them, that'd be great.

I honestly can't say on importing, as we just dropped off with Free Accounting (kept it installed with all data present) and picked right up with QuickBooks. I do know that it does track everything else, but not inventory, as other versions do.

If your business is simple, it should probably work fine for you. Our structure is simple enough (Web hosting and design) where it hasn't been a problem.

yeah, sounds about right. It's probably easy to upgrade should we need it in the future to a Pro version for example. Thanks again for your help. I'll take a look at the link now.

EDIT: From that link, says that you are not able to download the credit card and bank transactions.

Sorry to "invade" the topic ayk but what template did you guys use to start off, or did you make a custom template?

Is it compatible with the UK?

Bookkeeper 2007 and Microsoft Office Accounting Professional are two that I am checking out. Microsoft Office Account 2007 (http://www.ideawins.com/) - but they might not have all the features you need

Please read the posts before you respond. AWBS is a billing software just like ModernBill and the others.

They are discussing actual accounting software.

Sorry, not sure what you're asking in regards to the 'template'. Can you please elaborate and I'll try to give you an answer.

I will most definitely take those into consideration.

So far I am leaning towards Quickbooks Pro which runs for about $200 I believe. The Simple Start edition is a bit cheaper but lacks some features that I'd like to have such as downloading the credit card info directly into the software.
