View Full Version : ****** AKA Domainsarefree - Unauthorised Charges
Tom M 12-04-2006, 09:58 PM I posted the following thread some time ago now:
http://www.webhostingtalk.com/showthread.php?t=468666
It details my extremely poor experience with Domainsarefree.com aka ******.
Safe to say I'll never bother with them again, but as I've reported in several other threads started by other members regarding this company, ****** have continued to spam my mailbox with tacky offers to try and get me to take out hosting and/or other services with them.
A few days ago, I receive an invoice email generated by ******, trying to charge me a renewal fee for my domain name (mentioned in the other post).
The domain was transffered away from them a LONG time ago (basically as soon as there "hold" period was up), and they knew this (as they log the support tickets you take create with them)
Forunately the card I had registered with them expired some time back or I'd be issuing a chargeback right now.
I thought I'd post this to make any ex-customers of ******/Domainsarefree aware that they will most likely attempt to charge you for services you havent authorised them to charge you for some where down the line.
Of course this isn't guaranteed to happen, but seeing this invoice has made me more aware of this devious company.
I hope it helps someone anyway.
Thanks,
T.
elmister 12-04-2006, 10:55 PM A month ago, i did 6 chargebacks against them, then they sent 6 (fake) invoices to my bank, saying the charges were correct, and then issued 6 refunds, probably to reduce their chargeback ratio and avoid losing their merchant account.
Definitely, stay away from ******, luckily i transfered away from ****** months before this happened, hope they don't try to charge my credit card for 'renewals'
franksredhot 12-05-2006, 12:20 AM 6 chargebacks, I hope you got all of your names away from them first
elmister 12-08-2006, 11:17 AM Yes, i got all names transfered out months before
franksredhot 12-08-2006, 09:02 PM good for you
kanomen 12-27-2006, 01:27 PM When I am buying domain from ****** I everytime use online credit card.
I can rise its limit when I want also decrease the limit.
So they can charge me anything :)
Right Hosting 02-05-2007, 10:07 PM This is very scary, I wonder if I can enter one of my old expired cards into the payment info so they don't take money out of my account without my authorization? I'm going to transfer all my domains away from them today - I will write the details in a new thread now why I'm doing this...
Tom M 02-05-2007, 10:33 PM Believe it or not...Even after calling numerous times, emailing....to get me taken off their database (which should have happened instantly when I took my domain name from them) they are STILL sending me emails with charges....Take the following sent to me 5 days ago:

Now....That is breaking numerous laws...I never once subscribed to a reoccuring service...Nor did I EVER take out hosting....I simply registered a domain name with Domainsarefree.com, their sister company....Which I transfered away (with extreme difficulty) after their "lock" period of 30 days or so expired.
They can try all they like, but they have old payment details for me.
My advice to anyone is to stay away from these Cowboys...A truly disgusting company.

Right Hosting 02-05-2007, 11:28 PM Someone should contact the BBB about them, these shady domain registration companies are really bad for our industry. It'd amazing what these crooks get away with and no one does anything about it.
Tom M 02-06-2007, 12:51 PM And just got this today:
Greetings!
Here's a quick reminder that you still have 30 more days to earn a

Spamming and Unauthorised Charges are standard for this company.
crashnburn4u 08-31-2007, 08:16 PM Is it possible to circumvent the extra charges by using a ONE-TIME USE CREDIT CARD? I'd register multiple domain names and save $$$ with a one time use card. Any thoughts?
