Suppose you're going to register a domain for your future hosting business. If you'd register just one domain, would you pick, the .com or the .net? (if both are available, I mean)

The .com, every time.

You get a few people who think that the .net is better, but they are wrong :D -seriously, if both are availabe, at least pick up the .com as the .com is the 800# of domains. It is akin to asking, if the 800# and the 877# are both available, which would you get?

goes without saying, get the .com, people naturally type the .com extension in.

If you only get the .net, once you become popular, someone is going to come along and register the .com and get a whole lot of free traffic from you.

Dot Com all they way - but dot nets are also required if you plan to make it a great hosting site.

If you're serious about it, might as well get both. Avoid future problems. I remember a thread around here, where someone was complaining about somone else taking the .net version of their company name. You can avoid that type of situation and get 'em both...:)

Plus, buying domains is fun! The more the merrier, I always say... :D

Both. I voted for .com even though my site is using .net. When I first registered the company domain, .com was taken but had nothing to do with what my company does. I became very lucky one day when I did a whois search on the .com domain and it was available. I grabbed it in a second but haven't changed anything over because we advertised as the .net name. Regardless, if you type either one, you get the same web site.

well it depends, if you like own baskteball.net, soccer.net whateversport.net, than you can sort of build .NET brand for sport sites, so it isnt always the .com thing :)

.com all the way. But get both in order to protect your name.
