GearHost has a somewhat positive reputation on these forums. I've sent them many pre-sales questions before, they responded both in a friendly and efficient manner.

Conduct a search on the forums and dig out more feedback on them.

do you meant that they hate me because i emailed them twice
once for the sales and the another for the customer services email and it seems that no body is there to read my email as i thought it is simple and i will get the response fastly

or they don't consider the presale emails from the common people an important issue ..

BTW, i am with u .. i spent now more than 5 continued hours today in the fourm .. picking a host .. searching and i read a very good points about gearhost. so, why they didn't answer me :(

Did you actually open a support ticket? If you emailed support@gearhost.com then it actually creates a support ticket otherwise if you emailed sales then things go through an extra loop. Regardless, if you login to your iControl it will let you know how many databases you get, etc. In this case you have a Gold package which allows 2 MySQL databases that you can create/modify/delete within iControl.

so, no comments on flarehosting or innerhost?

anyone who has experience with either one of them?

for me lwh and i no nothing about them except that their cost is higher than gearhost in general.

and about the support ticket, there is no place to submit one as a pre-sale email because the ticket manager page asks me to log in. the same is for the support email, you know it because you are a part of gearhost, but what about a normal user if this email is not mentioned there or at least not located in a page that can be easy found for us to ask an urgent pre-sale question, especially that the quick response can gain you a customer or lose you another.

lastly, thanks for the answer and nice to mention that i received the answer of my email too regardless of how many hours it take.

I too sent a request to Gearhost Sales the other day and am still waiting for a reply. It's probably cause it's the weekend. They're in Englewood, CO and might be home with their families, or out fighting the fire, or something. If we don't hear back today, then I'd keep looking.

If you don't need mp3s on your site, you might give www.Delphicomp.com a look as well. I spoke with the webmaster this weekend, he responded promptly and was very helpful. Good rates.

Akshara, our Sales department is really on top of requests almost instantly even on weekends so I'm a bit confused as to why your response was no given yet. Please re-submit your response via the website or PM me the request. I will look at the open Sales requests again though.

The reason I suggested using the Ticket Manager because you mentioned you had signed up via your post snip-it below:

I see on the gearhost web page it says with the Gold package you get 5 additional full domains - how does that work?
Does that mean you get one IP address to which you can have up to 5 domain names mapped to?

they're name-based domains, i assume... nothing wrong with that.

With the five additional domains under the Gold account, you can add/remove/modify 5 additional domains within your iControl, with separate content for example. You can then setup FTP users and access permissions via iControl to truly separate your implementation of the 5 different sites. No additional IP is used, as it's not needed. As Skie mentioned their name-based (http-headers). You can use the same IP and map it to be separate as well. The Platinum offers 15 additional domains.

I would go with gearhost, as you can tell I actively support gearhost :) I have two domains and that works great, I sumbitted a support ticket 10:09PM last night and got a response at 10:13 PM, not bad, not bad at all :D. Also I requested a perl module to be installed, no problem with that, it was installed a day later, it probably would have been 2hours later but I wasnt exact with my support ticket.

I would defiantly go with gearhost, also they have had minimal downtime while I was hosted with them. So far my site has been up for 41 days nonstop.

I would defenitely say GearHost. They seem to have all things organised close to perfection at the moment and my sites are all running great! Signed up in the beginning when there were a few small (startup) issues but these have been solved months ago and since then all is great, no downtime and great speed. I have switched quite some time but if things stay as they are I will stay for sure.

Ryank: I am trying to contact your support since last 3 days. They sent me an email about the demo option in your control panel and that i can upload my CF files for a check. I was unable to upload files so i asked for directions which are still unavailable. Please do something, i need to check this in order to make a purchase decision.

I am still waiting .... got an email on friday that mentioned IP address , user ID and password (which i can obviously view from the demo control panel) tried to connect through CuteFTP but unable to do so... It connects but then says "waiting to show the welcome message" and after 3-4 minutes get disconnected

RyanK - what to do now??

I'll just say... I sent a request to Gearhost sales, and didn't hear back. It's been a week now. RyanK initiated personal communication with me last Monday, and I gave him some questions and concerns about the service stating I was wanting to make a decision in a day or so. To date, I haven't heard back.

I sent a couple emails and never got any. Later I then realized they all went into my junk folder in outlook for some reason.
Weird.

I've been with gearhost since April 1st (no i'm not kidding either lol) and been very pleased for what i'm paying. I think if you have a handful of medium bandwidth (2gig/month) websites like I do and don't want to pay a lot of money to host each one of them this seems like the best solution. The DNS resolves immediately to any changes and domains are easy to add and remove. You could even have two versions of your site in separated directories and then change the directory instead of uploading it and changing everything. If you have a .net/.org/.com of the same name you can also point them to the same directory which is handy and looks very professional. The only gripe i have is with the stats. You have to pay $10/per domain. However, it is a one time fee.

I know you didnt ask about them but I'd like to reccomment www.earhost.com

I've been with them since they started up (couple months ago now) and they've been really good. Comparalbe prices to gearhost but with a well known cp (cpanel). :)

well, eventually the things worked out. I got emails from them stating that as the demo cpanel is public, somebody changed the ftp settings. It was cleared for me and i tested my files by uploading them.

Now, I got a platinum account with them for a client. Hope it will work out nicely in future.

cheers :)

Hi

I have been with Gearhost since October/November of 2002 and I have to say I have been very impressed thus far. If you host a medium sized small business or home website then I think Gearhost will solve ur hosting solutions. They have a quick support hotline and they are extremely polite. Keep up the good work Ryan!!! Please be careful to not burn this company...as I do hope to be a customer for a long time.

Been with Gearhost for about 2 months. Intially we had problems with both servers we were on. They went down a couple times a day :( . For the past 2-3 weeks we havent experience any downtime and for now I would recommend them as my confidence is growing.
