Just about the initial setup and stuff. Thanks :) yakov 06-23-2002, 02:14 PM What about post these questions and answers here? I'm interesting too. porcupine 06-23-2002, 02:17 PM thats what nocster staff should be doing :) ask their staff :) Nephand 06-23-2002, 02:27 PM ...that was constructive porcupine, thanks. *thwack* :D I've trouble ticketed for everything they are (and I use the term loosely) "obliged" to help with...and then some. These were, as I stated, ignoramus questions. porcupine 06-23-2002, 02:34 PM :D Heheh, finally someone who knows how to *thwack*. Usually when people dont want to post its sales related questions, because if they have QOS questions they typically just outright post :). Just post the questions then :), but you made it sound like something they should be answering, :emlaugh: Nephand 06-23-2002, 02:36 PM hehe, andyc kindly messaged me. I asked him them. They're simply too [possibly] basic and embarassing to make public :o If i find it's just me, then I won't post them. If it arises that 'someone else' is at fault, then I'll post what the issue was :) porcupine 06-23-2002, 02:38 PM oh ppfffttt, theres no shame in asking questions. Dont sit at the back of the class, just ask :D Nephand 06-23-2002, 02:40 PM I'm not sat at the back of the class. I'm lurking outside looking in through the window at all the clever people :bawling: :stickout ;) porcupine 06-23-2002, 02:45 PM LOL, you think we're clever? Believe me, some of us are a lot stupider then we look. Do I seem intelligent to you? Because i'm really not , even i have stupid questions, often enough we have our own users going "hey, i figured it out..." and we add it to our knowledge base. Living is learning, and *everyone* regardless of whom they may be will have questions they think are idiotic, and knowledge that others wish they had, nobody knows everything, not even the basics :bawling: I can think of a few such "stupid" questions i've got that i should know but just never ran into yet (php mail function and CPanel comes to mind, gotta find out on that one). Nephand 06-23-2002, 02:48 PM strange....my PM didn't appear to get sent..not in my 'sent items' folder. Ooook, I'll bite here. to login via SSH as the root user........is it simply 'root' and your password? I always just assumed that "Login as:" would be reciprocated with 'root' then the password. The same issue comes up with CPanel really, I don't quite know what username I'm meant to be using to login, whether my servername, or root...or....?? :) /hides behind a cushion to shield from the laughter. :o :D porcupine 06-23-2002, 02:54 PM lol, i had that same question on my first CPanel install. When you install CPanel/WHM you wont have a CPanel account setup, you got to login to WHM with root and the servers root password. Same with SSH (default setup) its just root/password (unless remote root login is disabled, then you need another username to login, then to "su" to root). Did they give you a different login name? (some managed providers wont give you root access) SoftWareRevue 06-23-2002, 02:57 PM Sometimes the answer is just to easy so we think we're wrong. But, you are correct. For both instances it would be root + pass. Assuming, of course, you meant WHM instead of cPanel. [Edit] Guess Myles types faster than me. :bawling: NixHosting 06-23-2002, 02:58 PM Message me on AIM at pcsteve2001 or ICQ at 135284133. I'm just about always here. Nephand 06-23-2002, 03:04 PM WHM doesn't seem to be working... I enter <myIPaddress>:<WHMport> to try and connect, but nothing shows up except the old "Cannot find server". Also, they titled the password they gave me as "Root Access Password"... aside from my servername, IP and root Password there are no other significant details. There is also a link to an SSH program and the implication I can connect via SSH. I don't know if this has something to do with the fact my domain isn't in place yet. I have pointed the nameservers options of my domain name to what I think is the right place (where my current IP traces to). It's these little things I don't know...but they seem to make all the difference *doh* :o  SoftWareRevue 06-23-2002, 03:08 PM Originally posted by Nephand WHM doesn't seem to be working... DOH /returns to hiding outside the classroom window. will see about the SSHing now. Thanks a ton SoftwareRevenue :) (and of course everyone else) Wish it had been nocster that had responded...might have beat some humility into me, towards them. porcupine 06-23-2002, 03:52 PM Originally posted by SoftWareRevue Sometimes the answer is just to easy so we think we're wrong. [Edit] Guess Myles types faster than me. :bawling: Most likely because i hammer our mailserver every 2 minutes to grab new mail (practically gives outlook a seizure as theres 10 email accounts setup on my outlook express :D) Nephand 06-23-2002, 03:53 PM ok, my root SSH is also functioning now. I still maintain some suspicion over the root SSH access... but I will plead blind idiocy over the WHM thing... offering an olive branch 'benefit of the doubt' thing to Nocster. As soon as I get my domain sorted, my life will settle into peaceful appreciation of Nocster (although the domain sorting is outside of Nocster's realm :) ). |
