Does anybody have experience with reselling basic dialup services? I see Burst.net has a plan for $12.50/month. How is this service? I am not interested in reselling their web services.

Actually nowadays I don't think it is worth reselling dialup services.

I agree with Synergy. We signed up with Phoenix to resell dial up before they crashed and burned and sold our accounts to magapop, who decided to cancel them (???). We then signed up with http://www.cisp.cc and still very much dislike it. We have several hundred hosting customers and about 50 dialup customers, but dial up takes up about 70% of our support resources: dealing with numbers not working, radius servers going down, busy signals, etc.

Unless you plan to be really big so you can buy directly from UUNET, PSINet, Level 3, or Global Center my advice is to stay away.

btw: I am officially a Webhosting Talk Addict. When do I get my key to the executive washroom :)?

I also would warn against providing dialup services. That is the one service we do not provide! When we first started we offered dialup and that service immediately took up 70-80% of our support time even though the dialup was pretty good. Unfortunately when a customer can not dial up (despite very good instructions) you are going to get a phone call. The markup is not all that great unless you are huge, so overall I would strongly suggest simply pointing them in the right direction and letting them arrange the dialup service themselves.

As an option, maybe check out various ISP's who already have the existing set up, etc and work out a deal with them to resell their services. You become an 'agent', handle the sign ups and get a commision on each one, but the ISP takes care of the rest. It's less cash long term, but may allow you do set up package deals (hosting/design/dialup) or something.

Local ISP by me started out doing just that, progressed to private label (you handle the paperwork, they handle the support, tech side for you), you got something like $25 for the sigh up, and $1/mo/ acct. They recently merged with another biggy, but last I heard are still doing the private label program.
