I'm looking for a decently-priced and professional VoIP hosting control panel. I currently offer hosted PBX, business voip service, and residential voip service. Right now I'm doing everything manually with asterisk but lately is been taking too much admin time. I've looked at Voipnow from 4PSA but that didn't really seem to have the features I was looking for. Does anyone here recommend anything else?

Thanks,

Keefe

Hello keefe007,

Whats with .. ?

asterisk-gui
Asterisk@home
SimplePBX
FreePBX
Asterisk-java
Hsphere API/Plugin for Asterisk server
Ascopa Asterisk Control Panel http://www.ip-phone-forum.de/showthread.php?t=100050 (in German)

Would those work for you ?

I googled for "asterisk control panel" I dont have any hands on experience with any of the products, so some might not be suitable.

Guys, do you mind if you tell me what features do you miss in 4PSA VoipNow? Are you aware that a new version has just been launched? There are over 30 new features and functions.

You will not find a VoIP control panel that has even 30% of the VoipNow features. You can find web interfaces to config a PBX, but there is no other solution on the market that is designed for ISP/HSP.

This is very interesting. 4PSA, I had a look through your website, but do you have a "idiots guide to VoIP hosting" for newbies like me who are just looking at possibly adding this service for some of our local corporate clients?

Specifically, I would like an overview of how the pieces all fit together. I understand that basically the customer has to get service (their phone numbers) from a SIP wholesaler, then they buy their SIP phones. The phones plug into their internet connection and "dial" the SIP provider, which connects to the 4PSA VoIP server?

As you can see, I'm a bit unclear how it all works together. :)

The main problem I have with VoIPNow is the backwards way the relationships are setup. You basically have two layers of reselling. Why? That makes no practical sense at all. All other systems in the world only have one layer of reselling or a dynamic ability to have unlimited layers of reselling.

Ideally the system should be setup with the following levels:

Provider - Voip carrier or admin of system
Reseller - Reseller of the voip company
Client - End users
Extensions - individual phone lines or extensions for a multi-line hosted PBX for a single client

From the layout of the rest of the application it really seems like this is the way it was intended to be.

Having "extensions" be the end users makes it really hard to offer "hosted pbx" services because you can't reuse extension numbers within a certain "client."

Maybe some people want to have the Admin -> Reseller -> Reseller -> End user model but I think overwhelmingly people would want an Admin -> Reseller -> End User model.

Do you think you can you at minimum make it an option to use it either way?

mrzippy, we do not have "an idiots guide to VoIP", but we have a whitepaper. You can read it at:

http://www.4psa.com/docs/voipnow/voip_whitepaper.pdf

It answers to quite a lot of questios.

keefe007, the application was designed to provide scalable selling oportunities. You do not loose resources. A model like:

Admin -> Reseller -> End User model

is not ok, because the end user is in most cases a company with multiple extensions. In the company someone must have the authority to manage everything, and the Client level offers this posibility. Additionally if you position yourself as a VoIP service seller you can place yourself at any administration level you want in VoipNow.
