Hi Guys,
Am starting a web hosting company, and was originally going with RackMounted.com... I then saw a post about GridLayer... Was wondering what everyones thoughts were about who would be better to go with?

TGL (thegridlayer) is a nice product indeed, but rackmount doesn't offer any sort of grid/failover solution as far as I can see?

Yea they are just individual servers so are Grid's the way of the future? Would it be pointless reselling shared hosting packages?

Some may like to think that, but there have been numerous problems, not necessarily with TGL, but primarily with some other providers who have grid setups. Don't get me wrong, this is a great technology, but don't just think that there isn't a market for single server setups anymore. A well managed dedicated server will still get you 99.9% uptime, probably more. Grids are very complex and it's entirely possible (and I think already done in some cases) for them to be below 99.9%. But again, I must reiterate that TGL is definitely a nice offering...but not something that I would personally use for critical needs just yet.

TGL was just down the other day for several hours. That technology is great, but it may take years to get all the bugs out. With a dedicated server with raid you would probably be better off. 2-3 years down the road things may change.. who knows?
