Notwithstanding the fact hosts can reset the uptime to 100%, that site only pings the main website, which is normally on a server by itself, under no load. It doesn't check production servers. tomyknoker 11-28-2006, 10:02 PM That site isn't very reliable. I know, it can give him a rough estimate though about the host. As for resetting, I believe they now limit that feature to once every three months :) tomyknoker 11-28-2006, 10:07 PM http://www.webhostingstuff.com/company/MediaTemple.htmlIt said 99.5% uptime... But they are always down! ldcdc 11-28-2006, 10:12 PM Contacting the host directly.Even then, the stats may be altered. General customer consensus is the best way, but you need to try and find out how the customer monitored uptime. It's one thing to visit your own site a couple of times per day and say "I get great uptime", and another to have the site checked each minute automatically and say the same. GamePhreak 11-28-2006, 10:30 PM The best way is to contact the host and see if they have third-party monitors that have been keeping independent statistics. felit0 11-28-2006, 10:53 PM I know this is unrelated, but I was just reading 2 recent threads and noticed you have a "twin" XeHost: http://inverthost.com http://xehost.net/index.html Either your site got ripped, or you're both using the same template. Just a heads up. sTag-Dan 11-28-2006, 11:04 PM I know this is unrelated, but I was just reading 2 recent threads and noticed you have a "twin" XeHost: http://inverthost.com http://xehost.net/index.html Either your site got ripped, or you're both using the same template. Just a heads up. I was wondering where I had seen it! I am positive there are others... XeHSean 11-28-2006, 11:33 PM The best way is to contact the host and see if they have third-party monitors that have been keeping independent statistics. Agreed - third party monitors are the best indication of a host (ones that can't be altered ;)) GamePhreak 11-29-2006, 12:03 AM I didn't think of this earlier, but you can also find a customer that is keeping uptime data for his own statistical use. Since the customer would want accurate data to make sure his host is performing well and therefore would have no motive to tamper with the stats, his data would probably be accurate and easier to find as well. tomyknoker 11-29-2006, 01:35 AM Agreed - third party monitors are the best indication of a host (ones that can't be altered ;))well that's what i originally thought... but no one here seems to know any??? Jedito 11-29-2006, 02:27 AM Hyperspin.com It going to be cheaper to get your account there and monitor to the hosts of your choice instead than lose the money going with a lousy host. RW-Steven 11-29-2006, 09:11 AM I know this is unrelated, but I was just reading 2 recent threads and noticed you have a "twin" XeHost: http://inverthost.com http://xehost.net/index.html Either your site got ripped, or you're both using the same template. Just a heads up. http://www.templatemonster.com/website-templates/4856.html An no, i dont think there is anyway your going to get those uptime stats without asking the host directly, even then, as others have mentioned, be wary, some hosts edit them. |
