viGeek 06-22-2002, 09:11 PM Did not pick it up.
NetXL 06-22-2002, 09:29 PM Nothing came up here.
I scanned Qtlnw and border.pif in Norton Antivirus 2002 (last updated via liveupdate was 19/6/02)
It said it isn't infected with anything.
MGCJerry 06-23-2002, 01:29 AM It looks like some files left by klez...
When someone on my network got klez, it dropped a pif and some other binary file on shared areas they had access to. I looked at the pif file and they are usually just a shortcut (300 to 400 bytes), but the pif file is like around 96 KB and it appears to have some type of payload it looks like another worm. the code below makes me a little suspicous (I found the text within the file and it looks like there is compressed data just below this code below...
DATA
HELO %s
MAIL FROM:
RCPT TO: %d
They both look like a klez strain (klez wannabe)...
I think you got hit by a new strain of klez.... IMO...
Hey It's Me 06-23-2002, 10:48 PM that's klez for sure
viGeek 06-24-2002, 12:06 AM Thanks guys, I downloaded kaspersky anti virus. And it was a Klez ineed, norton failed to acknowledge this virus, so i uninstalled norton, tried to install 2002 and did not work. So i got myself kaspersky, which i will stick with.
beley 06-24-2002, 12:36 AM Well, just remember that virus protection is only as effective as the last time you updated it. It has descriptions of all the known viruses and if it's not updated it can't protect you. Norton and others are great virus protection softwares but they have to be kept up to date.

Virus software or not, here's a rule to remember: Nobody is going to email a .pif to you!!!
viGeek 06-24-2002, 01:04 AM Agreed. I used to update norton 2001 daily(if there was an update avail). However last week my virus definitions updating privaledges were taken from me, I was going to have to subscribe for a longer contract. So I deceided to get 2002 instead, however i could not get it to install. Now that I have kaspersky, I will try it and see how things go.
However, fiancee uses this computer, she problably downloaded it, she has downloaded over 50 viruses this year :uhh:. Just so happens I accidentily clicked on this one.
