The Thinker 06-22-2002, 05:36 PM What is a bad CPU temp.....how hot can the CPU get before it starts to affect performance, life of the CPU, etc..... Our CPU temp ranges between 25 C (~75F) and 45 C (~112F)......... Tazzman 06-22-2002, 07:09 PM As far as I know for Athlon processors they are built for temperatures up to 90 Celsius, but I would recommend keeping them under 60 Celsius as at 90 degrees, the life span isn't going to be very good. Anything over 90 and they start producing smoke (I know from some costly experience with and XP 1900+) I don't know what the max temperature is for Pentiums, but I would say temperatures ranging from 25 to 45 degrees are very acceptable. My PC (an Athlon XP 1800+) runs at around 40 degrees Celsius, and that's with some serious fans on the CPU and the casing. cbtrussell 06-22-2002, 11:48 PM Obviously it depends on the environment they're located in, but the operating range for the K6 processors in your RaQ's are listed up to something like 60C. 25>45 is fine, but obviously you'd prefer to keep the temp as low and as stable as possible. (it's an intel based cpu idle) 45C is normal for heavy cpu use. 55C ... something hot.... 60C .... you have to worry about... 70C .... you've almost fried your cpu.... >70C ... you'll probably burn it. just as an example ... my Athlon XP2000+ runs at 45C in normal use, with a decent cooler. 50C at max cpu use. :D Studio64 07-02-2002, 03:50 AM My Athlon runs consistenly (w/ load) at 75F(23.8C) w/ out a hiccup...
