Hi my current server is a windows server, but i am interested in linux, as windows is expensive

I want to know what i need installed on linux for a decent webserver with decent security

also what is bind????

im aware that apache is a good webserver for linux

and i think bind is for dns

but not sure, if anyone could help me out, thanx

bind is for dns. as for the linux config, many distros, i know rh :( (anti linux; rm -rf /* && ./install FreeBSD) does have an option when installing to pick like: 1. Workstation 2. Server 3. Custom the server should be ok for a beginner and just to learn it and eventually do the custom install where you get more specific in what you want installed.
