View Full Version : HostPacket Experiences?

Has anyone had experiences with this company (www.hostpacket.net)? If so, were they good or bad?

They are a relatively new host, but they do offer quite compelling packages, so it's surprising no one has posted a topic on them before.

If anyone has anything to say, please respond! :)

I'm kind of curious about hostpacket myself. As Radi said, they offer some great deals.

There's just so many hosts with so many different offers, it has made my head spin! :spiny:

Anyone? Bueller? :)

There site seems to load slow over here. That can't be a good sign.

This should 'not' determine whether you choose a host or not. You will find that mosts hosts, keep their site on a seperate server, on a different network.

Hostpacket's site loads really quick for me (here in California on a cable modem). It's actually loaded faster than some web host sites I've been to lately!

I have a domain hosted on hostpacket.net (for the last week or so)

I was offered a custom package in the "Web Hosting Requests" secton by Kevin (I believe he's the owner)

Good things:
Good ping times from Australia (ADSL) (250-270ms) which is probably about as good as we will get.
Low server loads (so far I haven't seen it above .50)
Good package prices put together (and responsive on this forum to requests)
Appear to have a relitvely good link to their provider (ev1?)

Bad things:
Have to access webmail from CPANEL???? (Bizzare) - Cannot have users use webmail (Neomail) because obviously they arent going to have CPANEL access - very bad indeed.
200k flash demo on their website which sounds like a pinball arcade.

Hope this helps

Matt Pearce

Did you tried http://yourdomain.com:2095 and login with the email address as username?

No, I hadn't tried that Jedito - I had emailed tech support and they had advised me the only way to check email using webmail was through CPANEL.

Thanks for your help. :>

I sent them an e-mail at 2:07pm EDT today, I got a response back at 2:21pm. Very nice response time, I'm pretty sure I'm going with them now.

I have been with Hostpacket.net for a couple of months. I needed a host with ASP and PHP and mySQL (not as easy to find as you might expect). Kevin (the owner I believe) responded to my hosting request on webhostingtalk and was the best price for the features so I gave them a shot. Setup was completed in less than 1 hour. I had an issue and sent a question to their support email system and received a reply in less than 30 minutes. I admit I was skeptical at first too but so far everything has been great.

Not sure about their service, but their owners place copyrighted material on their web site, then do not respond to e-mails to have it removed. We had to go to RackShack and force the removal. Well, guess what they did? They kept our images, and added their text over them. They still have word-for-word, cut and pasted text on their site stolen from our web site.

Does this look familiar?
http://www.hostpacket.net/comparisondetails.htm#ssi
http://www.webintellects.com/?body_link=vhdetails

Right now this page is down because they are removing our content:
http://www.hostpacket.net/webhosting.php

While we do not mind small 'borrowings' of text (really nothing anyone can do about that), we do mind stealing of artwork and blatent cut and paste copying of content.

Other then being a little slow to respond, Rackshack has been very helpful and should be thanked.

I’m a client of hostpacket since beginning of July, it’s not much time to evaluate downtime, but setup of my account was fast, a few questions that I had was replied in less then 24 hours and the speed of server is fine to me, I’m not in US.

I think WebInt message is important, but has no relation with hostpacket service , should be a separated topic, at least hostpacket did not copy the prices of webintellects, hostpacket is cheaper , and hostpacket do not use the term of “unmetered data transfer” presented at webintellects plans that , in my point of view, it’s not very different from “unlimited data transfer” that is so criticized in this forum.

This is pretty ignorant to say the least. Instead of trying to start a negative spin on what we do and how we run a business that has been providing service for over three successful years, perhaps you should use that energy to convince your host to not steal images and content. You are getting to this very late as almost all the material in question was removed.

I usually do not get upset by peoples comments as I do read a lot here. But you are a joke. Also, I stated that I know nothing of their service. But I will tell you one thing my friend, the ethics used to run a business will certainly muddy the waters of service. If a host is so apt at stealing others hard work, what does that say about the way they run the rest of the business?

hostpacket did not copy the prices of webintellects

Who cares? They *stole* content. That is illegal. Someone who doesn't see the bad in this must do it themselves. It was so blatent, RS shut the server down I was told *from* Hostpacket.

hostpacket is cheaper

Who cares? Cheaper is better? Have you hosted with us?

and hostpacket do not use the term of “unmetered data transfer” presented at webintellects plans that , in my point of view, it’s not very different from “unlimited data transfer” that is so criticized in this forum.

Fine. Don't use us. If you feel un-whatever is bad, then that is your choice. Good luck with it.

Please educate yourself before you post such ignorance. If you think content theft is OK, you are a fool.

I'm the victim too, got cheated by the writer :( and properly wasted $200 on writing service (hopefully he promised only the charts and package listing are copied), it's bad luck that I found a cheater

Sorry guys, one more thing.

Hostpacket has been working hard to remove the contant. We have been in contact with the owner about this. He seems to be a very nice guy. As I told him via e-mail, I am more then 100% willing to remove my post once the content is removed. I have no ill-will towards them. I just want the stuff removed. It took a post at WHT to get someone from Hostpacket to contact us. If they would have replied to our earlier request, we never would have posted anything.

I apologize to forumgp for getting upset. At the time I was furious why someone would just try to post negative stuff about another host in order to down play something illegal.

Well, I don't know about copyright infringement, but from a customer standpoint, Hostpacket has been nice thus far. I signed up for an account a couple of days ago (I know, not enough time to judge) and it was set up in an hour. The server has been fast and I have not experienced problems on my end.

Rackshack is their provider? The guy told me ev1 was their provider. I do not know who ev1 is so... :o

But anyway, for the price I'm paying, I'm not complaining.

WebInt if you want to complain please complain to the writer, please don't just complain to me, both the email from you and rackshack had replied at 18th, I'm working to modify the charts items at 18th night but you're still complaining in WHT Forum at 19th just bring me much headaches :(
