Welcome to Catch and Release. Catch and Release (C&R) is a fast and easy way to acquire available domains and assess their value prior to making a final purchase decision.

C&R QUEUE BRIEF
There are three simple steps in using the C&R service at Pool.com:

Establish and maintain a credit balance against which your C&R transactions are applied.

Add domains to your queue with the C&R Order Tool. When there are available domains in your queue (and funds exist in your C&R account) Pool.com will try to acquire them on your behalf. Once acquired, they will be added to your Domains in Evaluation list at which point you can start your evaluation process.

Evaluate your domains for approximately 4 1/2 days and decide if you want to keep them by simply selecting “Keep” in the Domains in Evaluation interface. If you do not explicitly keep a domain it will be deleted per the Time Remaining shown. You can also choose to delete a domain in advance of the delete schedule by selecting “Discard”.

Good luck and good domain hunting!

There's one other software that also does this. Thought some of you might be
interested in such.

So does that mean we need $60 for each domain we taste at any one time, Dave? For example, if I want to taste 1 million domains I have to deposit $60 million?

For like 7 bucks this would be a good deal

First time I hear of this. Questions which come straight to my mind are:

1) Whats the status of the domain while reviewing it ? Or
2) Who is the legal owner while you are reviewing it ?

Ah, that's something you'd have to ask Pool about. ;)

Incidentally it's not exactly free for domain registrars to engage in domain tasting.
What many people don't know is they maintain an account with Verisign (kinda like
you have funds with Namecheap or whoever), they get charged nonetheless for all
and any registrations they do, but get refunded for those they cancel at the last
minute within their add/grace period.

How 'pay and get full refund 5 days later' differs from 'free'? Of course, this requires to have some amount 'frozen' at the registry, but it is still free, at the end of the day.

Thanks Dave Zan. That's a cool tool.
According to the FAQ, it requires minimum deposit of $250 and will cost maximum $0.20 only per tasting

Any1 tasted this domain tasting care to share their experience?

Still, this is high amount, if you're into this for real (by this I mean REALLY big numbers of domains). This is why serious players tend have ICANN accreditations - it's free for the registrars...
