Thanks mkaufman 02-07-2001, 04:55 PM I don't..I'd much rather go with http://www.dtwebworks.com for the same prices :) dektong 02-07-2001, 05:38 PM Originally posted by mkaufman I don't..I'd much rather go with http://www.dtwebworks.com for the same prices :) dtwebworks.com is indeed a reliable and good company (cheap bandwith too!). However, I wonder how you compare the two prices. For Cobalt Raq 4i (20GB, 128MB) -dtwebworks.com (25 GB traffic, 5 IPs) costs $299/mo -rackshack.net (66 GB traffic, 1 IP) costs $99/mo so.... definitely rackshack.net offers much lower price. But having said this, of course price, is not always what really matters.... cheers, dektong 02-07-2001, 05:46 PM Originally posted by waltvf Does anyone have experience with RackShack.net or atjeu.com? Thanks Looking from their site, they are division of ev1.net. Traceroute shows their main website is located in OLM network which is using host4u.net as the nameservers. Connection seems to be fast enough (at least they have multiple DS3, if not more). I talked to the sales person there (Brian). Something made me wonder, though... All RAQs come with only 1 IP. Though this might be enough if you do not want to have your own DNS and only host virtual accounts, still I asked wehther I could get some more IPs eventhough I have to pay extra. To my surprise the answer was "NO" and the reason was because they have limited stock of IPs and the IPs are scarce enough that they can only give 1 IP for each RAQ. Wonder, why don't they buy a bulk more IPS from ARIN and sell it to make profit? Anyway, so far this is the cheapest RAQ deals I have ever seen, and no contract too! Looking forward to hear other's expereiences with them myself. cheers, waltvf 02-07-2001, 06:21 PM ["All RAQs come with only 1 IP. To my surprise the answer was "NO" ] Thank for the input. According to the FAQ on the rackshack site it is possible to have your own DNS They say "You can use our DNS name servers at no cost. If you prefer you can configure your server to run its own DNS. You can then add as many domains as you like. *If you would like your own name servers, please note that you will have to register the name servers at Internic. The registration process can take from 7 to 10 business days. We recommend that you use the RackShack name servers for the first month while yours are being configured and registered." Since I am just getting started as a web hosting company, wouldn't this be a good way to go while I get my feet wet? (I do not want to be a "re-seller" - so no advice in that area, please.) I've had some bad experiences with a few hosting companies (i.e valueweb, halfprice hosting, besthost1) and I don't want a repeat performance with a dedicated server. This forum is great - wish I had discovered it three years ago. bermi 03-18-2003, 04:55 PM I have a server in rackshack with 5 IPS. Just order them and you'll have them in minutes VNPIXEL 03-18-2003, 05:50 PM RS has my vote. alapo 03-18-2003, 06:16 PM Originally posted by dektong dtwebworks.com is indeed a reliable and good company (cheap bandwith too!). I thought it was 400GB across the board except for the duel xeons? x007 03-18-2003, 07:05 PM rs have my vote as well ! nice network.. if you know how to manage a server go for Rs ! AcuNett 03-18-2003, 07:11 PM RS has an excellent network. Support is excellent considering it is unmanaged. Customer service is SUPERB. Their hardware is horrible (at least the celeron's and durons). We've had two hard drives fail on us, and once the ram was bad. I have not tried out their P4's however one of our managed clients that has a p4 with them claims no problems.
