Beachcomber reseller hosting review
I write this review about beachcomber hosting services as a result of my 10 months experience as a customer of a 150Gb tranfer reseller package. The motivation to write this review is because I’ve been recently kicked/fired from their servers. Literally.
I’ll try to be as explicit and objective as possible, my intention is not to fire and hurt them as a result of my anger for being kicked, I just want to let people know my experience, as it might be interesting for someone.
As I’ve already stated, I signed up with beachcomber in January 2006, they helped moving 9 sites to my reseller account, server was fast and uptime almost inexistent, support was always helpful and very responsive. I was happy with the service for months.
Problems started before sumer. Suddenly the server started acting strange when measuring my bandwidth. There was an issue somewhen between day 10th and 20th each month that doubled the daily stats of used BW of my 3 busier sites (bw stats said about 1Gb/day was used every day and suddenly the stats changed saying I had used 2Gb… cpanel stats were like crazy and did not match awstats and webalizer at all). It took them 2 or 3 months to recognise there was an error after many insisting tickets from my side, looked like they just didn’t believe me… finally they recognised the BW was being incorrectly measured and starting working to find a solution (opened a ticket with cpanel, basically). Months passed and problem was never solved, I kept being charged for unused bandwidth until the termination of my accounts 4 months later.
But this was not the reason they gave to kick me. At the beginning of November 06 suddenly my sites were suspended and I received an email saying that the resource usage of the server was too high and they considered this was because of my sites. They said I had to move away from bachcomber, there was no upgrade offer, no other solution or choice, my account was to be completely deleted in 20 days. I even was advised to get a dedicated server as they said no VPS would be enough to support my sites loads. I was kicked away without choice.
But, were they right? Were my sites taking up the server?
Basically I had almost the same number of visits in my sites from the beginning, the growth could be about a 20%, at most from january. I had noticed the global server load being higher, but only during last month, load ranged values from 4 to 7 or so, but my sites kept runing the same as they did the past months… nothing new in my accounts that couls suppose more load.
Although advised by beachcomber not to do so, I moved to a VPS about 12 days ago. Specs were not top-notch, I have 375Mb of guaranteed RAM, cpanel and 300Gb tranfer. Moved my sites there and realised that the load of the VPS is always 0.5 or less. Mem usage is high but inside the limits, everything is fast and VPS is not overloaded. It can even pull in some more sites.
So what do I think about beachcomber… they are a good company, or at least they were great in the beginning, but in the last weeks/months they seem to have forgotteng how to manage a server, and hot to treat a customer. They did not solve the BW issue, they blamed me for the high load of their server while it was not my fault and they kicked me out unpolitely and with no choice or hope.
You can make your own opinions about beachcomber, I already have mine.
