If you can start it on its own domain.

You can always link between your site and the forum.

If your current website needs more traffic, put it inside your currect domain, it will bring more traffic.

If you link, you only get the benefit from SEs side.

From Seo point of view it's better to have 2 subdomains closely connected, you'll have better results on PR, since your new domain will at once get the PR of the existed domain.

Well, I meant if your aim is to have 2 highly-attended musical forums, you can start by placing a hip hop site on the subdomain, it will give him part of the PR that your existing site has now. It's easier to promote a site with 2 subdomains, when this is done, you can redirect it to a separate domain. But think about a domain name ahead, you may purchase it now not to have problems later.

illbeatz, you can go to a seo-oriented forum and talk to people there. Good luck!

Make a new domai name for it. Its alot easier to access a domain name directly.

Get a new domain. Then link to it from your illbeatz domain. Easier to access and still generate traffic.

Just create a subdomain for it, something like: forum.illbeatz.com

Keeps your forums separate from your website while still using your established "illbeatz" brand. I think a subdomain is cleaner than doing it http://illbeatz.com/forum/
