Okay, I got a problem with a RH 7.3 server and I'm not sure what to try anymore:

- upload speeds are 638.81 KB/s
- download speeds are 51.76 KB/s

any idea what could be wrong? Those download speeds are awefully low.... any suggestions?

what kind of connection is it on? Do you have an IP we can trace to? Sounds like a cable/dsl connection.

and it certainly isn't the server... :)

Well let me first say that it is cogent quality :)

But traceroutes through the cogent network are terrible.

However, beyond that there are a few things it could be:

You could be capped on your up/down via the switch, a pretty common thing that is done.

Your switch is getting it's butt kicked or even the network it is on is getting it's butt kick either in the up/down or both direction.

I seems pretty slow from my datacenter and we are primarily Sprint connected.

I will have to assume that you have tried many different sites to get a good idea of the differences between your up/down bandwidth.

well between servers in the noc I get 6Mb/s for upload.... download halts at 250Kb/s.... I tried changing full/half duplex mode, but that didn't do anything... it's odd...

well if it is intra network, then most likely you have a port limitation placed on you. Might want to talk to them and see why?

Hopefully you are on a switched network and not on a hub, if you are on a hub the collisions would be causing problems both ways. Check the stats on your interface and see if there are any errors?

I would lean towards you having restrictions in place on yourserver.

Yeah, I'm at a loss for any other reason... time to talk I guess....
