View Full Version : Any suggestions for a great PAY DNS service??
Carlos123 06-20-2002, 08:55 PM Hi there,
I am looking to find a DNS service that has a great and easy to follow web site and that I can count on.
I have looked or started accounts at the following...
mydomains.com - FREE
better web site than most but a bit confusing to use
when you get into it. Web site a bit all over the place.
zoneedit.com - FREE
one of their servers is not responding. Quirky web
site. Parts not working right or responding to my
clicks. My email got messed up when I set up some
forwards. Still messed up.
ultradns.com - PAY
Web site all over the place again. Not very impressed.
Though they apparently have some high profile clients.
Is there not one with a great looking and smoothly working web site that will make me proud to recommend them to others, and that will cost me money?
I don't want to use a FREE service. I want to pay.
Does anyone have some DNS service recommendations based on personal experience? Services that one must pay for, that are not too pricey, and that are very good?
As in good customer service, reliability, and easy to understand and work with domain management interface?
I am looking for a DNS service so as to have better control of how quickly I can redirect email and get a site up and running when I have to change hosters.
Any suggestions would be appreciated.
Carlos
DavidU 06-20-2002, 09:13 PM You can pay EveryDNS.Net $5000/yr if you want.
Plus I'll do whatever you need (DNS wise, don't get gross!) ;-)

Carlos123 06-20-2002, 10:14 PM Hi Davidu,
Thanks for your input. I had already checked out your site and while the overall appearance and functionality was much, much better than something like ZoneEdit it seemed that your options were kinda scarce.
Do you offer email forwarding?
URL cloaking?
How long have you been in business?
Are you profitable enough with the free based model of business you are using to stay in business?
Are you growing?
I was a bit set back to see that you had less than 4000 domains hosted compared to something like mydomains.com which claims to have 600,000. This alone is not a big deal since everyone has to start somewhere but if you have been in business for quite a while it might be an indication that your offering is not as good as it could be.
Any further input? I like the clean look of your web site. Not to mention the speed with which it comes up. Very nice.

Hmm, I think we do "DNS" very well. Our only deficient area in my mind is our secondary DNS service.
Do you offer email forwarding?
No.
URL cloaking?
No.
How long have you been in business?
12 months exactly.

Yep. Donations keep things going.
Are you growing?
Very much so. Note however we only grow to what we can handle. As of right now we could grow to at least 40 times our current size without much change in our infrastructure.

I find that a little hard to believe but it is certainly possible. MAYBE they have 600,000 records but even that I doubt.

People here in the forum will vouch for us.

The new version of the site is far better and offers a new feature that I have yet to see elsewhere and is quite cool. We also have a couple new tricks our sleve.

RotoHost 06-21-2002, 01:44 AM In addition to EasyDNS, give www.secondary.com a look.
JDMundo 06-21-2002, 05:03 AM Very easy and reasonably priced: http://www.verisigndns.com
I have been using mydomain's DNS for some time, and it worked well, but their support is the wrose I have ever seen. Only rarely do they respond at all, and when they do, it can take them weeks. Don't choose them.
Zoneedit works well, their support is much better than that of mydomain.com, but it is not fast enough as well, and quite often their responses are not good - my impression was that my e-mails to them were read only briefly, and took a few days of exchanging messages for until I got an answer for a really simple question.
DavidU 06-24-2002, 05:14 PM I think I need to get my act together or something.
Lots of people on this forum use my servers and not a single person has vouched for them!

Why not check out one of the many eNom resellers. eNom domains include DNS services and e-mail forwarding. You can easily find an eNom reseller in the $10 - $15 (USD) range.

Come on, you don't expect me to stay here every second looking for an opportunity to express how much I appreciate your service, do you?
I have personally used everyDNS.net for more than a few months, and I can attest to the execellent reliability of their service. I see no reason to use other paid service when everydns.net does the job so wonderfully well.
