View Full Version : Credit/debit card processors
digitalracks 11-13-2006, 09:07 AM Hello,
I want to start taking my customers card details for payment rather than using the likes of PayPal and Nochex ect.
Can anybody recommend any paymnt processors whereby my billing system can send the customers card details to them and have the amount processed?
Thanks
RoLLex 11-13-2006, 09:09 AM I think, that 2CO will be fine.

Protx is a pretty well known UK processor.
Corey Bryant 11-13-2006, 12:31 PM You can check out the electronic payment gateway Protx and see what merchant account providers they will support and check out Barclay's / HSBC for merchant account providers and see what electronic payment gateways they are compatible with.
SH-Giles 11-13-2006, 03:55 PM Don't use a UK provider. They charge too much per transaction. I'm going through this process atm with a US Merchant Bank who charge 30cents for credit cards. In the UK the charges are nearer 50cents!
Also using authorise.net if that helps.
vwstor 11-13-2006, 11:48 PM authorize.net are pretty good, and internetsecure.com as well, never had an issue with either of them, we use 2Co as a backup. Just check with both before you apply for an account that your 'business' is acceptable you dont want any 'holds' being placed on your account like worldpay for example who pay out after 30 days ...

This does not allow the OP to do the requested. As it is a 3rd party merchant.
I would suggest LinkPoint. They are great! A little slow in getting the account setup but overall pretty good service.
SH-Giles 11-14-2006, 09:49 AM Also WorldPay costs I just looked into
£200 setup
£100 for first 6 months
£30 / month after that
4.5% on Credit Cards
50p on Debit Cards
RIP OFF!!

If their service is what you need, its not a rip off - its just a cost of doing business.
SH-Giles 11-15-2006, 08:46 AM I think it's a rip off when other companies I've been to aren't charging this!
E.g. PayPal aren't charging any setup or monthly fee. They're thinking about a £20/month fee from early next year but at least you don't get charged £300 before you even using the service :) Plus it's 3.4% & 20p per transaction not 4.5%!
DATARTIM 11-15-2006, 10:21 AM Yes but paypal are a joke with taking credit cards, Worldpay are backed by RBS, so atleast you know they are "safe" and it works properly, it wasn't so long ago you had to pay about 1k to take credit cards. No serious buisness relys just on paypal, they reverse transactions as unauthorized even months after the event, when neither the client or cc company have complained or anything.
Avoid using paypal, I do suggest WorldPay , they may be expensive to some, but they are very good.
HackNo-Alex 11-15-2006, 11:15 AM Authorize.NET is a pretty good system... I would recommend it over other things since most systems that accept credit card payments have a built in Authorize.NET processing module.

Well, I stuck my foot in my mouth here. Now I am starting to have slight issues with LinkPoint, regarding merchant ledgers....getting crazy and its only 10:30 in the morning.
SH-Giles 11-15-2006, 05:01 PM Well I'm also stuck :(
I can't use a US processor as I need a US bank account etc...
I am getting the royal run around by Paypal and have just told them this. You can't sign up on their website coz it gives you errors and their phone system has no one able to deal with your query. I was told to create a ticket :wall:
WorldPay are great (used them years ago and still use them today for a different business) but I never had to pay £200 setup fee let alone this £1k TrafalgarWeb said (or wasn't that related to WorldPay?). Anyway, you're right that Paypal are a joke :(
I can't get hold f anyone at http://www.vibralogix.com/cwhoiscart/ since I'm using their cart. I need to ask them if any UK procesor is recommended by them or even supported before I start searching the UK for one! I've left 1 phone message and emailed them twice over the last week but no response. A real shame coz I really rate their software highly too!
Anyone know anyone over at Vibralogix that can point them to this thread?
TIA

Had to have a US bank a/c :( Reason for my post above :(
SH-Giles 11-16-2006, 12:13 PM Ok update.
Adrian at http://www.vibralogix.com/cwhoiscart/ just rang me. What a helpful chap! He did reply to my email ages back but n00b here hadn't setup that account through spam mail so it got caught :(
Anyway, all sorted now and bounced a couple of ideas off him too.
cwhoiscart is well worth the dollar!
