So let's say one is transfering a .com domain. How automated is this process at the registrars and at the registry? Are there regularly scheduled "batch" type operations that run at regular intervals at these entities?

Basically, I am curious if domain transfers by the .com registry (verisign?) only progress Monday-Friday?
