View Full Version : Registering a New Name Server at Namecheap- How Long Will it Take?

I registered a new name server at Namecheap last night on one of my domains and heard it takes 24- 48 hours for the new change to propagate through.

Does it really take this long?

Have you created an 'A' record for it at your zonefiles as well?

No, it doesn't if the nameserver is new. It might take longer if you're updating an existing because of dns cache.

Just run a NSLOOKUP or digg on a root server to verify your nameserver.

Well, the servers till haven't changed yet and it's been 48 hours. By the way, the domains are preexisting and I have changed my name servers as well as register the new one. I didn't have an "A" record, but I set one up several hours ago so I do know. I'm using Cpanel by the way in case that makes any difference at all.

Here are the domains:
pcfastlane.net
gsreview.com

Even if the name server I set up isn't working correctly, shouldn't they still try to point to the name server and give me a connection error? Right now they go to actual sites (well gsreview.com goes to an account suspended page), which they shouldn't once the change goes through.

I'm not sure which issue you are trying to get help with, nameserver registration or applying nameservers to a domain but here's the problem:

http://www.dnsstuff.com/tools/lookup.ch?name=pcfastlane.net&type=A

[Broken DNS server: Reports a server failure]

Is that the correct IP for ns1.pcfastlane.net ? If not, then you need to update the nameserver IP address.

I am trying to register a new name server. Thanks for the link, it helped me out a lot.

The IP for ns1.pcfastlane.net is correct. And it looks like I need to fix something...

EDIT- I found the problem. It seems as though I didn't make DNS zone. I just did and now the DNS server works.

Now I am waiting for the new name server I registered at Namecheap to propogate through. Could the DNS Zone not working have been the reason why it's been taking so long to propogate through?

It looks like you're having more problems:
