Hello,
My name is Piperi a Business student at the University of Kent. I am hoping to launch my webhosting business soon in order to gain experience in running my own business but also to earn some money to help me during university.

I was just wondering if anyone has any suggestions for my new business/site that they would like to see in a new webhost. Any features that are hard to find or anything like that?

My services will be aimed at home users wanted to set up a website and small/medium sized busineses wanting to host their site. I am aiming for the packages to be no more than £60 per year, will all features and around 500mb diskspace and 5gb bandwidth. what do you think?

Any comments and suggestions welcome.

Thanks

Hello and welcome to WHT! You might look at getting a re-seller account for this. There are many reseller companies out there which can suit your needs. Be sure to research the potential companies so you can make an informed decision. The offers section of this forum would be a good place to begin.

Welcome to WHT, and glad to see yet another web hosting provider. Basically the concept is easy....be different or die out. Come up with innovation that you think would help the industry consumers. Make sure that everything in your website is user-friendly, appeal to the usability side of everything. Also don't create a service....but try to aim for a pleasant experience for visitors and customers.

I agree about the reseller account, make sure you find one that you like -- because your host's reputation will be your reputation as well. Get a quality host, that has quick loading sites and good uptime, as well as good support.

I wish you much luck with your business!

HostFrog is absolutly right. You need to find something you can really target to get ahead in this industry, superior technical support would be one. It might be a good idea to ask this question in a running a webhosting business also to see what it takes to get a solid company running.

Thanks. I have already got hosting sorted. I am currently creating the website and thinking of different strategies and marketing.

Thanks for your suggestion. That is very much what i would like to create. I would not want to create a large company providing thousands of people with a service, i would rather keep it as a smaller business striving to help people get the best out of their internet experience.

What do you think of the example price i gave you?
Where do you think i should promote/advertise?

Thanks again:)

Thanks for your input. I will add it in that section of the forum as the launch date comes closer

I think that if you want to focus on a small number of clients then raise your prices a bit, stay away from $3 plans, and start around $10

definetly wont be $3 lol, not possible!!!

I will probably offer 2 plans, most expensive being wat i mentioned in my first post:
£60 per year, will all features and around 500mb diskspace and 5gb bandwidth

Chances are that i will be using cpanel. What are your thoughts on that?

I have been using several panels up till now, and i think cpanel is the one to go for.

In my experience, most home users wanting to start a website don't have a clue about space and bandwidth.

I would suggest making it as easy as possible for those home users to create sites and get help when needed.

Make your main offer a site builder and fantastic support.
Then offer, as an add on, advanced site building help. Something that you are given a task to do by your client and you get it done. Charge a monthly fee for that, follow through, and you have yourself an easy to use company that offers websites for home users.

Just an opinion.

Just thought i should update you all on my progress.
I am currently in the process of still making the website, very pleased so far, but have uni work to do also, so its going a bit slower than i hoped.
Domains registered and all other admin stuff is pretty much sorted.

It's good to see someone this excited to start a webhosting business.

Feel free to ask me questions on anything. I've been doing hosting for over 5 years now and between home users and webmasters it is unbelievable how the home users are lacking the simple knowledge of what beginner webmasters already know.

Words of advice. The home users will drive you up a wall with how little they know. Most of them you need to baby step them through simple processes like setting up their email client. For every time you "train" a client, make a FAQ for it and a How-To. It sucks having to repeat yourself numberous times.

Best of Luck!

Thanks for input!
Ive got different plans on how to deal with such issues, one of them being making how-to tutorials, the rest can be seen when the site launches!!

Still creating main site, its going well! i will start the content this week as well as creating the members area. Members area will be a bunch of things, not provided by any other host out there to my knowledge. :)
Will take some time, but im (sort of) on target!
Late next week, will start looking at registering business etc etc
