Hi guys,

I have a domain, say, x.com registered with Directi. I have also created name servers ns1.x.com and ns2.x.com there. I have about 15 other domains which are using these name servers.

Now I have bought a reseller account in OnlineNic and I am planning to transfer all my domains there. I guess I'll have to transfer x.com first and register nameservers accordingly. But I don't seem to find any link to register name servers in OnlineNic reseller control panel. In Directi client control panel, the link is called something like 'create child nameservers'.

I don't want any downtime with any of my domains for DNS problem in the transfer process.

Any help would be apprecited.

I would suggest you to update (if they needs updating) your nameververs and transfer only then, as child DNSes are transferred sometimes 1-2 weeks after the domain.

Hi, thanks for your reply.

I am confused. How can I update them? I have to transfer domain to OnlineNic and then I am able to create nameserver with that domain. And secondly, how to create name servers in OnlineNic?

So, there are no such nameservers as ns1/ns2...nsN.x.com?

If there are, you wouldn't need to create them after the transfer, they will be transferred to your Onlinenic account, after the domain; it just takes some time (as I have wrote - usually 1-2 weeks AFTER successful transfer).

By 'update' I mean 'update IPs', sorry if I have put that not clear enough.

Yes, there are already those name servers existing. During that period of 1-2 weeks after transferring the domain, will the sites that use those name servers be okay?

I have visited your personal domaining blog. Excellent one.

Provided everything else will be functioning as expected, they will be completely OK. Transfer of child nameservers is the part of domain transfer and it usually isn't the thing that breaks domain functionality (if done with full knowledge).

Thank you.

You are welcome.

After the child name servers transfer to OnlineNic, how to view/edit it through the control panel? I don't seem to find any option for that.

Anyone?

Sorry, I never used them, so I can't answer.

What their support is telling you?
