View Full Version : Hybodus Monitoring Software - $200 lost? Site vanished
hostbox 10-31-2006, 03:17 PM I bought HYBODUS Monitoring script a year ago, just before the price skyrocketed to $400.
I got the so called "Professional edition" I believe, which had all the features.
Now their site, www.hybodus.com leads to a website where there's no MEMBERS AREA to download/license a new install of hybodus.
 Basically, they went under and can't even get the latest copy even though they stopped development (which I understand). :kaioken:
jerett 10-31-2006, 03:35 PM No they did not go under. The people that run server powered also own and produced hybodus. My guess is they feel they can provide a better service by offering vps's with Hybodus already installed for you to monitor your servers. Pretty good idea for 49 a month.
Try contacting them on where you can download the program.
KDAWebServices 10-31-2006, 04:50 PM They were considering making it open source, then someone said something they didn't like and they threw the toys out the pram as far as I can gather. Not the first time they've had a hissy fit because they didn't like negative comments. Very immature.

I have, two days ago I opened a chat session and the guy over there told me to contact support@webhostfreaks.com - I did, but did not get any auto-reply e-mails or responses to my e-mail.
:uhh:
ayksolutions 11-01-2006, 11:10 AM Get Nagios.
hostbox 11-01-2006, 12:00 PM Finally got a response - even though it is not clear if the people who got the license are gonna get any updates (since they are STILL OFFERING hybodus on VPS).
No security updates??
The Hybodus Network Monitor Project is officially closed for public download and purchase. The plans for Hybodus Open Source have also been canceled due to many complaints from the community. The Web Freaks, INC has carried the Hybodus Network Monitor project for nearly two years and has suffered great financial losses due to the project and the extermely complicated development schedule.
The only way you can receive Hybodus from this point forward is to obtain a Hybodus Virtual Private Server from Server Powered for $49.95 / month from http://www.serverpowered.com/hybodus-vps.php .
Existing licenses may be used and / or installed via the Web Installer that came with your Hybodus download. If your license needs reset, please contact sales@thewebfreaks.com and provide your Hybodus Serial Number so that we can reset your license. The License Reset fees still apply if you have reset your license more than twice.
If you need any further assistance or have questions regarding existing licenses, please contact sales@thewebfreaks.com for more information. However, the project is officially closed, and you may not receive a response for sales questions.
jerett 11-01-2006, 12:51 PM Okay. That sums it up - I suppose.
cbtrussell 11-02-2006, 01:04 PM The writing has been on the wall for quite some time. It was clear from their Terms of Service and then their own comments in threads here on WHT about those terms that they couldn't be taken seriously. IMHO.

What a way to loose some money.
They where about to release a new version and look like they don't plan to do it.
Also since they don't plan to support it would be great that they release a not enoceded version to the current owners to give us the change to tweak it, fix it or do something else.
What a shame...
tickedon 11-05-2006, 06:50 AM It is a shame. It was a great application, however, I never bought it as the company behind it always seemed to be changing things and generally unresponsive to user feedback/requirements. I feel sorry for those that have lost out.

It was good, but never great, a product that takes 2 or 3 minutes to log you in, because you've got more than a handful of servers in it, is not great by design.
I do feel for you though, loosing your money and only having had a short supported life on it.
Jim_UK 11-09-2006, 05:34 AM I was looking forward to taking a look at the open sourced script. However, when it was announced, and being aware of previous observations of the Hybodus crew, I had a bet with one of the guys here that they'd change their mind within 5 mins (or before it actually went open source). Looks like I won :D

Hehe, we said the same thing here, lol. Mind you, it'd have taken a lot of fixing, as it was dreadfully slow once you got past about 20 servers, and had a nasty habbit of not sending alerts when services came back up.
Ramprage 11-09-2006, 04:50 PM That sucks, I wonder are existing licenses transferable ?

I believe Hybodus allow you to change the location you installed hybodus twice, after which they charge for that. As for giving it/selling it to another person, there's a thread on here involving emax from a while back and from what I remember they were 100% against any sort of re-selling/transferring of licenses.
Snowman30 11-13-2006, 12:14 AM Supposedly it was because of me they had their hissy fit.
I have been askign for over a year to bring it up to PHP 5 compatability and they didnt. I heard they were going to go Open Source and thought great i can sort it myself then...
they said 60 days and 60 days came and went... and their forums started to cop spammers etc and i wondered what was going on so opened a live chat at serverpowered and was told quite rudely not to expect anything anytime soon or perhaps at all.
Now i didnt care if it came out as open source i just wanted it fixed, cause the clickatell gateway had to be updated to work with it and the errors were just piling up.
I was more than happy to throw money at them to fix it but they guy was rude and blunt about it so i went to the forums and posted what id been told and that was the end of it.
I then got abused in the CPanel forums by eric who said i was the reason they scrapped it...
so obviously
a) they dont give a ****
b) the dont want to make money. (my boss was more than happy to throw money at them to get the monitor sorted)
c) they never intended to do it in the first place
hostbox 04-15-2008, 02:44 PM It's been two years. Have they released it as Open source yet? or even stated plans for hybodus?
tuwebfacil 04-15-2008, 03:14 PM I was checking their website this week too and seen no update or nothing...
It's incredible.
