Hello,

I've been away from the internet for over a year and a half. Before then, I had a domain hosted with OLM that included a very large site of mine, and which housed about 5 of my friends personal sites. I had absolutely no problems with OLM, and after doing some research to still see if they were still as good as I'd known them to be, I decided to to have my new, much, much smaller personal website hosted there again. But in looking at their shared hosting plans, I realized that even their cheapest ones (including WebAxxs's prices) are laden with options and features I don't need.

Even though, their prices are very low, I'm reluctant to order a plan because I'm a tightwad and I hate to pay for anything I'd never use.

I need:
- 30 megs of space (being very liberal)
- 1 gb of bandwidth/mo (being liberal)
- 1 FTP account
- PHP, CGI, SSI, Perl
- 1 POP3 email
- control panel
and most importantly:
- fast, knowleagble, dependable tech support
- fast servers and great uptime

*I'm actually willing to spend more for a hosting package if I know the last two I can count on*, but I'm wondering:

- Can a reseller offer me a better, more customized deal for less (say under $6/mo?)
- How do I go about finding a reliable reseller -- I'm naturally skeptical of them -- and how do I determine who they are reselling from (like OLM/WebAxxs, Futurequest)?
- Or, can you suggest a host that you feel will suit my needs?

Thank you so much,
mp

Post in the requests, then do a search on the company here, im sure thats the best way. As for going through a reseller, its up to you. There are pros and cons. I prefer no resellers because it more direct, of course some swear by resellers because sometimes they do a better job.

confusion in your post. First most of the extras you mentioned really do not add to the cost of hosting. What hosting cost is based on is 1 Space, 2 Bandwidth, 3, Support .

If you want great support do not look for a price under $6.00 a month. Stop and think about it for a minute if there is a support tech making $15.00 and hour and they spend 30 minutes researching and answering a question for you, the host has lost money on your account.

Low cost and GREAT support just do not go hand in hand.

Remember you get what you pay for this is true in hosting as in anything.

On resellers the GOOD: some will give you better support on a low cost account because they are a one man show and have lower overhead and fewer clients they can afford to spend more time with you.

The BAD resellers are great if the problems are small and all you need is a little advice every now and then, but when a major problem hits, server down etc they have no more control on getting it fixed than you do and very few have any more information than you do about what is going on. AND if you happen to pick a resller that like you bought their account from the cheapest source they could find instead of quality well, remember you get what you pay for.

True but the host will make money on the accounts that do not require support, not every customer needs help especially if they have been hosted before.
