Is it true that search engines block WPG submissions? I would like to know, because I am considering purchasing the software.

Even if they don't, your better off submitting them by hand. Takes more time, but definitely worth it.

Alot of the majors now have ways to deter autosubmissions (e.g. altavista uses a image that you must type into a text field).

You can use a service like moreover.com (http://www.moreover.com) to provide news on your site, that`s just one option of many it depends on what you have available to you... if you have php/mysql access there`s other options, same with the email.. reply with details of what type of setup you have, and I`ll be able to give you better details on news & email options..
