My question. I have looked at Fantastico and Installatron. Both don't work
with proprietory control panels. Do any of you know of auto-installers for
well-known scripts that don't rely on a particular control panel being used?

Nope, unfortunately not, Received news from Fantastico that something might become available in the future from them which doesn't solely depend on cpanel. Other than that, no news yet. We are now investigating options to make something ourselves.
