Can anyone comment on the quality of services at mydns.com? How do they support it if it's free? I'm looking for something like this to host a couple hundred domains. I need the domains pointing to a single site, with the MX records set up to point to separate pop boxes. Would you recommend mydns.com for this, or are there alternatives?

You can try everydns.net. Support has been pretty responsive.

Use enom (or one of their reselllers such as Namecheap) as your registrar and use their DNS.

Zoneedit is good but they limit your zones to 5. Another alternative is http://mydomain.com

They are all the same company/site. I used them for years. Right now I don't care about domains hosted via them but very soon I will move. They crash here and there. Some areas of the country they can view the domain, some can't. Can't take that chance. They have tuff firewall rules where you cannot ping or trace-route last time I checked.

It's free and you can't ask for much. They have a very large selection of stuff to play with from MX, to Domain IP Pointing, Stealth forward to standard forward and many more.

3rd Party DNS handlers are sometimes nice to hide your upper supplier I guess... When I started I didn't feel comfortable with DNS settings and security issues based on rumors Not only that but I seemed to have crashed my COLO Center's DNS servers, so I stopped using it. I use 3rd party.

Based on my bookmarks I have the following links that might help you find one. Some you might have to pay a buck or two; and some might charge a 'very' small yearly fee. If that's the case I expect no crash or issues compared to the freebies.

That's all I have. I know there are 3 other major, well known sites that provide DNS services. You can also check out www.deja.com or www.google.com and find out opinions of others.

ps: we've had 5 hours of downtime in 12 months which comes out to like 99.999943% uptime (I think). Anyways, nothing to complain about for a free service, right?

5 Hours is not bad... Sometimes we get 12 hours of downtime and that's every few months. Issue is that someone in NY might be able to see the site where in Calif. they might not.

That is when "domains" are handled via www.mydomain.com/www.myinternet.com/www.mydns.com (all same comp).

I also noticed that they have "Forums" there. Which you can find out what's going on within minutes/hours "if" something is up. Hard to see the link but they do have forums.

I know, that was odd to see that... because I know there are lots of users and that forum will get packed in no time.

But hard to find, few did and soon we'll see what it will be full of...
