okihost 06-17-2002, 12:06 PM Just mustering up some ideas today and thinking about building a couple of servers and colocating IF there were some colocation facilitys aroung boston.. I am actually out near worcester ma so either boston, providence or hartford would not be more than an hour away for me which is what I am looking for.. anyone know of anyplace good.. we have been leasing for almost 2 years and I think it is time to make the move to my own servers.. thanks
NixHosting 06-17-2002, 12:18 PM Hey I'm from Boston also. I know of one place in MA called kirenet. I beleive their site is www.kirenet.com . I've never used them but have heard good about them.
FHDave 06-17-2002, 01:25 PM Depending on your needs (Rack space, bandwith, etc), there are many good data centers near Boston. In fact, may tier one datacenters (UUNet, Level3, MFN/Above, etc) are around Bostong Metro. We have our own rack at InterNAP in Sommerville, which should be close enough for you too. Level3 also has a datacenter in Hartford, CT (Although I heard it's a small one) but Level3 requires at least $5k minimum of recurring fees, the last time I heard.
Good Luck ...
NixHosting 06-17-2002, 01:27 PM Woah there's a datacenter in Somerville? I grew up there and still didn't know. How are their prices?
FHDave 06-17-2002, 02:01 PM Actually, there are at least two datacenters near Sommerville. Level3 is in Cambridge, probably just about 1-2 miles from sommerville. InterNAP is on 70 InnerBelt Rd, Sommerville. Go check them out (only from outside though :) ). Regarding their price, it's quite good, not as cheap as cogent of course .... but then it's InterNAP/Level3 bandwith, not cogent bandwith either :)

petertdavis 06-17-2002, 03:57 PM Hey, FHDave, there's only on 'm' in Somerville.

I would avoid kirenet like the plague. They run off a couple of t1's shared with a load of shell servers, and are known quite well in the shell industry because their services are a total joke (which i think im qualified to say as i had an account with them for over a year a few years back).

Do you know where the Level3 datacenter is in Cambridge? I know they have some space in the building I work in (1 Main), but I think that's just a sales office.
